i was looking into possibly gettin a RS and my friend had mentioned something about the 99 RS engine setup was different and it caused some problems. so he suggested i get a 00 RS, cuz the engine setup was changed..

does anyone know something about this and can shed some light on this for me? thanks:)

2 things going for you with the '00 over the '99.

The engines are the same in both cars. It's the intakes that are different.

The '00 has a MAP system that you can put an intake on while the '99 has a MAF with a film in it that overheats many times and breaks (breaks down from the oils on the aftermarket filter). Every time this happens... you need a new MAF (~$300)

+1 for '00

One other point to consider:

The '99 has an Open Diff in the rear, the '00 has a limited slip diff in the rear.

+2 for the '00

KC, two things that you missed.

1. The 99's had a 9.7 to 1 compression ratio whereas the 00-01's had a 10.0 to 1 compression ratio.

2. The MAF problems on the 99's are currently being fixed by a recall notice to swap in a supposedly "more durable" MAF.

You are correct about the rear LSD on the 00-01's, though.

Also, the replacement MAF for the MY99 is no longer $300, but a mere $45 or so. And you CAN put an intake on a MY99 RS, I've had my intake on since I bought the car without a single problem.

No isht? Wow! That's cool.

I thought the Phase I DOHC (98) to Phase II SOHC (99+) had the compression bump.

can anyone explain the exact differences (other than the DOHC -> SOHC) between the 98 and 99 2.5 RS's ???

I think it has to do with the duel cam in the "98 and single cam in the "99. I was told this at work, 'cause mine is a "98 RS. What, does the duel cam have more power???--- Rozlyn:confused:
