I'm posting this for a friend from Club Vmag who has a '96 Outback. He's trying to find a light bulb for the seat heater switch that's located in the center console.

The bulb is about 1/8" tall and across and is mounted inside a white vinyl or rubber boot. The bulb has wires that come out the bottom and the rubber mounting boot permits the two lead wires to be exposed at the bottom of the rubber boot assembly. The rubber boot has two holes slit in it which permits the boot to be slid over two posts in the switch which then allows the wires to touch the posts and the bulb lights. The rubber or vinyl base is like 1/4" by 1/8", by 1/4 inch tall. The height is made up of a thin vinyl tube which surrounds the bulb and directs the light upwards which permits it to shine on the inside of the switch face lighting the little chair for the lit display on the seat heater switch.

It's bulb that lights the switch for identification purposes and glows when the intrument cluster lights are on. I don't know if the Impreza has the same switch or even has heated seats but just thought I'd ask to see if any of you have had experience with these itty bitty bulbs in other applications.

I know it's a long shot but does anybody know where to get this bulb and assembly without having to replace the entire switch? His local dealer doesn't have any part number for the bulb and tells him that he has to replace the entire switch for about $35. He figures he should be able to buy a bulb for no more than a couple of bucks.

TIA

You've figured out how to get into the switch and remove the bulb. Now go to Radio Shack and buy a #7219 bulb. 60 mA, 12V if memory serves me. 2 in a package for about $2. Replace the bulb (in that funky rubber base), snap the switch back together, reinstall and you're done!

I've changed out mine in my 97 OB. I actually used a bulb from one of the climate control backlights (just removed it from the base). I'm told that the RS bulb works fine. It also works for the climate control backlights and dash switch lights if one is so inclined.
