I bought mine (alloy)from Eurosport the other day for $85!!! You dont want to go there San.

But what I can say is that a good knob makes the car feel sooooo much better. I had a knockoff of the airleather alloy. The real deal is so much better. It fits your hand better, it's lower, and just looks damn sexy.

is the carbon shift one similar to the other with the sme pattern and logo at the top of the shifter? Also, for the full leather one, will that little aluminum piece at the bottom of the knob be seen or will the shifter boot cover that up? Thanks in advance!

I'm not the vendor but I can answer this question because I've done a lot of homework regarding these knobs. These momo knobs are not a direct screw on replacement for the OEM knob. As I understand it, there is a plastic adapter cylinder that plugs into the knob tightly and then is pushed down onto the shaft of the actual shifter. The metal cuff below the shift knob body screws down to reveal small allen screws which screw into the plastic cuff inside of the knob. This way the screws secure the knob body to the adapter cuff and apply pressure onto the shaft of the shifter from the plastic cylinder to secure everything. There is no nub for the boot to lock onto like on the OEM shift knob. However, I ordered a plastic insert that replaces the provided plastic cylinder. The insert works as a direct screw on replacement and has a nub for the boot to sit on so everything is flush. Here is the link, the adapter was $20 shipped.

http://forums.i-club.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=146661

hope this answers your question.

I got my knob last wednesday, it's awesome! I love it! Feels/looks so much better than the stock one or the titanium sti one I had before. yeah steve, thanks a million. mine was backordered when i ordered it, and steve listed the date it would ship. he sent me an email that exact day saying they did come in and that it shipped. i also got the threaded insert (here) (http://forums.i-club.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=2350900#post2350900) and it works so beautifully. simple 10 min installation, and the screws just bite right into the plastic insert, as opposed to just pressing against the metal shifter shaft. just wanted to thank steve at autoinnovations for great service and a $65 shipped price as claimed.

I just wanted to add that I bought the carbon/aluminum knob from Auto Innovations the last time and they are really awesome. Great service guys, thanks a lot!

I also wanted to add that I got the same adapter that paulie had made and it makes it so much better. You *can* install it without the adapter, but you have to use screws and find a way to hold the shift boot up. Another thing, you have to have an aftermarket short shifter as well (kartboy Im sure of, not sure of others) or the knob won't fit at all. I found this out the hard way and had to wait longer to install my shift knob :(

Anyway, thanks for the great service! Paulie was awesome as well with the insert, really great to work with! Good luck everyone, here's a pic of my shifter/knob installed!

The Momo Race Airleather fits perfectly on my Cobb Short Throw Shifter with the supplied rubber piece, it is never going to move on me. I tried the fit on my oem shifter and I had no problems there either, so I am not sure what FlaaB is talking about. I'll probably be stopping by for those Eibachs soon. Can you guys install those, and if so how much would that cost?

I'm not sure why anyone would pay $20 (one-third the cost of the knob) for a mounting adapter that isn't necessary. I trimmed the rubber cap to make it a sleve, slid it almost as far down on the shifter as it would go, and tightened the screws. It's on solidly (I can't budge it) and the shift boot stays up flush with the bottom of the knob all by itself. Maybe it will sag over time, but for now it seems to be perfect.

Do you still have anymore Race Airleather/aluminum knobs left?

Hank3
08-16-2002, 11:18 AM
I think some people didn't want the allen screws of the momo knob digging into their shifter - potentially ruining the threads. And the boot not sagging was just an added benefit. My $.02 :)

With the rubber boot, I doubt that the allen screws were going to penetrate deep enough to mar the threads. It's not as if I care that people are buying an adapter, I just didn't want people who are interested in the knob to think that's it's necessary (like I did).

From the pics I've seen the airleather and leather/alum. seem a little thinner and the top rounder/smaller this true or is it the angle of the pics

Got my knob quickly, installed it no problem, and it seems to fit just fine so far without any adaptor needed. Thanks for the great service and fast shipping. I am replacing a prodrive knob with this one, and the momo definitely lowers the knob height. Plus, it feels great, looks great with the steering wheel and is not freezing cold all of the time!
For those of you concerned about install, it took me about 2 minutes. Very simple. Also, my shift boot snugs right up against the bottom of the knob without needing any other support or bands.

The Carbon/Alloys hopefully will be back in stock in a couple of weeks.

Note: We've been trying to offer members low prices with exceptional service, and for the most part we believe we have accomplished this. Though due to an increase in our shipping costs, we will need to increase our shipping charges as well.

Beginning March 1st, the knobs will be $70(CA) and $67(47 States).

I have a picture of a shift knob in my car without an adaptor on page 4 of this thread.

You don't need the adaptor, I've had many customers go without and the knob fits fine.

Steve

UncleMeat
04-24-2003, 06:01 PM
Is there an adapter for the shift boot? Or would you need a Momo shift boot for a "proper" fit?

Auto Innovations
04-24-2003, 06:33 PM
There is not an adaptor that we offer, nor does Momo. You can use a Momo boot if you desire the "proper" fit.

"The boot does tend to stay up pretty well, but there is still a gap. I glued mine on at first with a bit of AutoGoop, but eventually bought a threaded adapter off one of the guys who was making them. I think it was $15? Elimintaes the set screws going into the threads, and no need for the silly rubber spacers.

I thought about it and I really like my race air knob without the momo shift boot or any adapter. The shift boot stays up all the way on it's own, and since it's not threading into the shift lever, it gives the appearance of a more traditional short shifter... unlike the factory one which is still pretty long.

...i got my shift knooobb, naanaaanaaanaaaaaanaaaaa...
Thanks Steve, Received my shift knob on Tuesday (missed monday delivery), installed in 5 minutes without adapter OF ANY KIND. I am never going back to my old shift knob so i don't care about the threading, and if I ever do... i'll just screw it back with a couple threads a little ragged. Not like these threads have any purpose other than the shift knob. The shift boot isn't attached to anything but is perfect as is, i don't see what the problem is. The boot just sits there maybe 1cm below the taper of the bottom (when in 1st/3rd/5th gear); otherwise, it's right up on the bottom. (i've still got the stock shifter tho).

Thanks again for the fast shipping (from CA to MA) and price.
Rob

EDIT: i did use one of the rubber adapters that came with the shifter to cap the end of the shifter (end of theaded end). The knob is lower than original one, and has a better feel of the tranny than original shifter. I love it.

EDITEDIT: "...The boot just sits there maybe 1cm below the taper of the bottom (when in 1st/3rd/5th gear)....."
I was wrong, doesn't move and stays on bottom of knob on it's own.

Is that the "pit stop carbon" handbrake you're talking about. thats the only one that looked like air leather to me on the MOMO web page.

Also how is the handbrake installed? (and does it come with a "boot" or anything like that?
