I have run at Putnam Park and IRP in Indiana. LOVE Putnam. I am moving to northern IN so new home track will have to be Gingerman in MI. I just got back from the Rolex 24 at Daytona. I go every year! I will add pic of my 911 later. I race my Porsche 6-8 times a year at Sears Point, Laguna Seca and Thunderhill here in Northern California. I would really like to get the WRX out on a wet track and see how it compares to the Porsche....I got my first and only Pole position last year in very wet conditions at Sears Point...I like letting it slide a bit! miguel alcrudo 02-11-2001, 07:04 AM I race a 2000 RS, in our Street Touring 2 category. It's very similar to SCCA showroom stock with a couple of mods. Our competition: vr6, celica gts, miata, acura, m3 e30, jetta, 325i; up to 2.5L. We won the championship this year. Last event of the year is a 1 hour racewith a mandatory pit stop. We got Fitzgerald,Korman, and other as visitors drivers in other categories. I'll try to post pictures. LUME 02-11-2001, 08:29 AM Yeah, I ran my 00 RS in ST2 at Watkins Glen last year with EMRA (time trial). TCRA2 02-11-2001, 07:26 PM Hi Guys, It good to know that there are some I-club members that are inteested in road racing. I have tried to invite the I-club members to several track events and only a few Bay area members joined me at Laguna Seca last month. I discovered most I-club members are only interested in dressing up their cars to look like a real WRX with some clear lens, rims, etc. or to race someone on the public highway instead of driving their RS on the track and do it properly. I am still offering all I club members free driving school for the next Touring Car Racing Association track event at Buttonwillow Raceway. I am one of the volunteer TCRA club official and has been road racing for many years. Please check out the TCRA web site at your leasure. WWW.touringcarclub.com. (http://WWW.touringcarclub.com.) TCRA has been around for 5 1/2 yrs with over 800 active members. I have also raced with other racing organizations including SCCA running a Corolla GTS in ITA. POC in a 911. Vintage Auto Racing Association with an Alfa Romeo Duetto Spyder, a MGB GT and a Formula Atlantic March. Currently, I am racing a WRX type RA and a Mazda Xetos Super Touring Car with TCRA. There are three WRXs in the club and the racing weekend is friendly and fun. If there is anything I could do for you guys, don't hesitate to contact me. I could be reached at (626) 293-8891 during normal working hours. Emil/TCRA2 Strepto 02-11-2001, 07:34 PM man, I need to move to CA so I can get involved with the TCRA. There's really only one road course out here, and try as I may I can never manage to have the funds to pay for open track days http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/frown.gif Patrick Olsen 02-11-2001, 09:15 PM Yeah, I know how you feel, Strepto! I subscribe to an Open Track emailing list and it makes me sick reading about all the events the guys in the Southwest (particularly California) get to. Here in New England I have Lime Rock (a rather short, old track) within about 2 hours, NHIS about 4 hours (but I've never heard of a club running a track day up there) and then from there everything is at least 6 hours away. Quite a bummer. Here's my tentative plan for this summer: 4/2-4/3 Virginia Intl Raceway (VIR) with Quattro Club 5/18-5/19 Rausch Creek, PA with NASA-VA Region 6/30-7/1 Rausch Creek, PA with NASA-VA Region 7/13 Lime Rock Park with CT Autocross and Rally Team (CART) (practice and time trial) 7/28-7/29 VIR with Car Guys, Inc 8/24-8/25 LRP with NASA-Tristate Region 9/7 Pocono Intl Raceway with CART (practice and time trial) VIR is probably going to be about a 10 or 11 hour drive, PIR and Rausch Creek should be 6 or 7 hours. Blech!! Pat Olsen pajono 02-11-2001, 10:03 PM Patrick, I'm guessing that you were the (un)lucky guy who rolled on the uphill turn at LRP? That was some pretty interesting video! I've already signed up for a Quattro Club event at Virginia Intl Raceway the first week in April, and I'm going to try to get to one OT event per month between April and October. I have a friend who has run it 6 years straight now, Roy Hopkins, who runs it in a BMW 323i with a Euro Spec M3 motor and euro tranny, coilover suspension, OZ suprturismos, M3 spoiler etc....Argh, it needs to warm up so I can swap tires and really feel my new suspension. rsr911 02-12-2001, 04:23 PM I finally got my pics posted. I caught up with him at VIR this past September but I didn't get a chance to take a ride with him... he placed first in class with the M3 powered 325, after a mid-race motor swap! And I also saw the Speedvision race where the S4 smacked the wall in the same turn, but he was bumped, whereas I was just stoopid. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif SteveS - CART primarily does auto-x events. There aren't any SCCA events in CT, so CART and another club run their own events here. CART also does a couple track events each year. Up until this year it was always at LRP, but this year they're expanding out to PIR and Summit Point. Check out www.cartct.com (http://www.cartct.com) for more info. Last year they only managed to get in one OT event, a time trial at LRP. I went to that event, and I'm assuming all of their events will be run essentially the same. Basically, it is NOT a school event. They have a few "instructors" who can show you the way around the track, but once you know how to drive around the track safely you're on your own. I rode along for 3 or 4 laps with an instructor, and then away I went on my own. We did 4 20min practice sessions, and then did the TT in the early afternoon. The TT is run in 3 car groups, with the cars staggered by about 20sec or so. You do one fast warm-up lap, then 2 timed laps, then one fast cool-down lap. (On your cool-down lap, the next group is coming out to warm up, hence the "fast" cool-down). The one thing I thought really sucked about the CART event was that they didn't want people using hand signals to pass. I had only been to 1 OT event before I did the CART event, but even with such a small amount of experience I could easily tell you that that is a stupid way of doing things. Anyway....the CART events don't cost too much, and you get a pretty good amount of track time. Pat Olsen '97 Legacy 2.5GT sedan slide 02-14-2001, 01:11 AM I take my legacy wagon out as much as possible.. Also am a volunteer for nasa... SteveS 02-14-2001, 05:05 AM Thanks for the information on CART, Pat. I'll check it out. I like the idea of passing signals at this time since I don't have a cage in my car. I have no desire to go fender-to-fender with someone into turn 1 at VIR (or any turn). Not YET anyway. I'm really looking forward to VIR in April! Sounds like we're going to have quite a few Subie's invading on the Audi event. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif Steve PS. Tons of images, movies, etc. I am not a pure racer, probably will never be. I just don't have that kind of money, but I love track racing, shows, and some autocrossing. Check out the Streets of Willow Springs section for a bunch of movies of my last track event. And give me a couple months notice on any Laguna Seca event, and I will do my best to try to make it a reality. -Dan Pilot 02-15-2001, 06:48 PM Fellow track junky chiming in, but I don't track the scoob primarily because I have a 944 Turbo track car. I'm doing a PCA event at VIR in April, and a pretty full PCA shcedule besides that so I probably won't see too many of you guys unless your "other" car is a P-car. BTW PCA runs track events at NHIS STiShawn 02-16-2001, 07:40 AM I'm running a PCA event at Gateway (roval) in April, can anyone compare this to a BMW event? Ive run The Glen with the BMWCCA twice....I need more track time! Pilot 02-16-2001, 10:08 PM STiShawn, What region is that. As far as I know PCA won't let you run at their events unless you have a Porsche powered Porsche (they won't even allow 944s with small block Chevys).
