i have 2002 wrx auto and it is real
real solw off the line for about 30ft
or until 3000rpm and turbo kicks in.is this normal? makes it real dangerous getting out into fast traffic. can this be adjusted for faster take off. need help
trade it for a manual
just kidding, the only thing you could do (i think, not too familiar with auto's) is get a beter torque converter? maybe?
im not sure..

Try putting it in 3rd and pressing the pedal down real fast.

I had a 5sp RS and I can tell you I really miss the ability to launch off the line for left turns or crossing busy roads from a dead stop. Since I've had my Forester and Outback with an autos, I had to change my driving style because they just don't move out off the line. Sometimes I have a brain laps and think I can make it and then I find myself hagging out in the intersection about to get T-boned because I can't get clear in time. I have tried every gear selection while mashing the pedal and the autos just bog. I have to admit that rolling on the throttle slowly seems to work a little better. At least that's what the butt dyno says ;)
I did test drive a WRX wagon with an auto and I only hammered it off the line on gravel which of course I threw gravel everywhere. I did like the passing gear on it, but I'm concerned that it still doesn't have enough tourque to move out quickly off the line for my tastes. I'll probably get one with a 5spd just to be sure My left leg is going to hate me again at rush hour traffic jams :( I'm sure the weekend drives will make up for it though :D

You'll get used to it. Once you figure out how to launch without frying the clutch/tranny...it launches really well
FargoRS, ive found that the clutch on the WRX is very light and comfortable for traffic..

FOR faster take off into ongoing traffic such as on ramps first try not to come to a dead stop. wrx takes off better on the roll second shift the auto down to first and up through 3 for greater acceleration. the auto launch in this car blows and I've had problems on short on ramps. there's been a thousand posts about this issue. I almost traded my car back for a manual twice I was so pissed. now I'm just used to it.

Even the manual WRX takes off slowly from the line unless you rev the rpms to at least 3000. Does anyone have any suggestions for optimum shift times and at which speeds/rpms to get good line starts? I don't neccesarily mean drag racing starts, just better than decent speeds that I seem to be getting now.
