View Full Version : Help with LINK ECU Info
kaos200 07-31-2002, 03:58 AM Ok so I dont know too much about it, as in...
Where can one be bought? How much?
How is it tuned?
how is it wired in?
What kind of injectors can it drive?
Anything bad about it?
Please help me as Ive gone through SEVERAL ecus and would like to find out all the before I buy another one. (I shoulda kept my Wolf, grrr)
Scoobyslack1 07-31-2002, 10:18 AM can get them here...good info too (http://www.carmodifications.com/products-index-link.htm)
and I think Dale sells them (http://home.att.net/~teaguesauto/index.htm)
I'm thinking of getting a Link too
PunKidd 07-31-2002, 12:16 PM Yep get them from that link (AMR). Andrew is a great guy, he'll help you out a lot.
It can be tuned w/ a lap top or a hand held tuning modual (I would recomend the lap top.)
You can wire it into you stock harness or get the plug and play harness.
It runs low impeadance injectors (stock) or high impeadance w/ a resister pack.
I've been runnig mine for almost 7 months and I love it.
kaos200 07-31-2002, 12:52 PM can you (or anyone for that matter), explain how the wiring is?
Is it like the tec in which it goes directly into its own sensors, or is is ALL like you said and goes into the wiring harness behind the dash? Do I need to change any sensors? (MAP? O2?) etc?
thanks alot
ALSO, does anyone have a good map I could run if I bought this unit?
thanks
Kian
christoph1371 07-31-2002, 01:08 PM The Link replaces your stock ecu. It uses the stock ECU housing and connectors.
Does it have a good map? well, that depends on what you consider good. The function of the LINK is the ability to tune to GET a GREAT map. It does have a map on the software that will run the car initially. You will of course want to change it and tune your car to get the most out of what you paid for.
Contact andrew at AMR or pm skywalker.
PunKidd 07-31-2002, 01:37 PM Actually the ECU for the RS doesn't replace the stock ECU like the one for the WRX does. It has to be wired into the stock harness in place of the stock ECU. I will run off all the stock sensors and hardware w/ exception of the MAP sensor wich is internal to the ECU.
Andrew can sell you a harness so that the whole system is plug and play. The only thing you have to worry about if you use the plug and play harness is running a vacume line from the manafold to the ECU for the MAP sensor.
As for a map you can probably ask around and find some one w/ a similar set up to yours and get them to send you a copy of there PCL file. I know I've sent mine out a few times.
christoph1371 07-31-2002, 01:44 PM note to self...read little blurb below people's name to see what car they have.... DOAH:D
skywalker 07-31-2002, 04:37 PM Hey kaos200,
One can be bought from either AMR Mods or one of thier vendors.
As for wiring in the LINK, you do not have to wire in the ECU, as you can get a wiring harness that will connect your stock harness with the LINK. Basically it makes it a drop in unit.
You can drive high impedance injectors or with the additional converter you can run low impedance also.
Bad things about it, none that I can think of. There are some small quirks about it you have to get use to, but that is true of any system correct?
If you have any other Q's let me know.
PM'ed you also

If you wire it in like I did it is 42 wires. The harness that makes it plug and play is $150. I decided to save the money and do it myself. Now I cannot explain how difficult this job is, but it is 42 wires and your working in about 1 cubic foot of space under the dash. A lot of the wire is covered and you have to double/triple check you are cutting/soldering/shrink rapping the right wire. I wired in both the stock harness and the link harness so that I can go back and forth with out a problem. So far I've run the link 2 for a month and a half and have gone back to the stock ecu for the last couple days for some work on the wheel bearings. It is a great product, but it takes a while to learn how to use it.

P.S. I dont remember exactly, but I think it took around 4-5 hours of work to get it wired in.
kaos200 07-31-2002, 05:46 PM thanks guys :)
kaos200 07-31-2002, 06:04 PM So if I ordered one, Id need...
the new Link (2 or plus???)
the plug in harness
the adaptor cable to run my laptop to it
the adaptor to run low impedance injectors,
and what else???
thanks

The stock ignition system we have is fairly capable.
Link 2 is the same thing as the Link plus
If you buy from AMR the price will include the laptop cables. Plug in harness is extra. $60 I think for the resistor pack to run low impedence injectors.

PunKidd 07-31-2002, 08:06 PM If you would like to run a better ignition then Andrew at AMR can sell you a 4x4 igniter to use w/ the Link and then you can run individual coils for each cylnder. You can even put each coil right next to each cylnder and have a sweet direct fire set up.
Or you could get really crazy and run a separate MSD ignition system for each cylender, but that would get a bit pricy.
GimmeScoobySnacks 08-01-2002, 12:38 AM i bought mine from Pam at iSR. no problems at all with it. i didnt have a laptop so i bought the tuning module. its pretty cool :p

skywalker 08-01-2002, 03:22 AM The OEM coil pack is fine for anyone that is not setting up thier car as a track only car. If you are doing so, then I would say upgrading the coil pack would be a worth while option. As for day to day driving and seldom track appearances the stock coil pack will work fine.
As for the low impedance injectors, you will have to buy a resistor pack for the LINK. Though this might sound like a downfall of the Link it is really not since most other unit's that come with low impedance capability already have similiar resistor packs within them. A lot of poeple don't need that capability so why take up space and money when it is not needed.
