hmmm..I wonder if Subaru/Fisher will do the same thing that SAAB/Fisher did by extending the employee discount to the dealers of each product. ie, I could have gotten a SAAB S5 Aero at the price that the car dealer gets it at last year, since I work at a shop that sells Fisher.

mr. fisher may be cooky, but his aluminum hardtails (like treks) ended up having the same geometry and reinforced head tubes etc. as Kieth Bontrager's steel frames; after Trek bought that company too.

you are refering to Genisis geometry which was developed by Fisher WAAAY back for his own frames. bontrager took the frame design and applied it to some of theirs as well http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/rolleyes.gif ..same thing with his sugar hardtails..go look at a Klein Adept and Fuel dualie..see that linkage setup..look like the bowlite (or whatever he calls the bow peice) that prevents the stays from bowing and instead the flex joint itself bends http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/lol.gif

so many things have been stolen outright from him once he was bought by trek..oh..8 years ago i think it was http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif (BTW gensis geometry has been around FOREVER in the Fisher line..before though it was only the high end models then they brought it down to even the Marlin IIRC )

Woohoo! I just built a nice new supercaliber, and I was thinking of covering that stupid SAAB decal with a nice Subaru one.

I actually had a chance to meet Fisher, too. He is one weird individual, but the 5 fishers I have owned throughout the years have been such sweet rides. I want a Suburu with a nice factory bike rack now (or at least a decent rack mounting system) like the Trek VWs...

Edit: Gary Fisher isn't weird in a bad way, he's weird in a good way. I heard that when Trek bought his company, he bought a purple lexus or something and had flames painted on it...

Fisher makes some nice bikes, but i am kind of anti-trek... Anyway i just had my MTBs swiped 2 weeks ago, and the insurance money will be here in the morning (picking up a check). Now that Schwinn does not own Yeti anymore, i may replace my ARC with a new one. Anyone here ride one since they got out from under the schwinn company?

So Gary sounds kind of eccentric but most geniuses are I imagine.

Anyway, I once owned a Fisher Hoo-Koo-E-Koo (or whatever it is was called)... well two of them. The first one threw a weld when I was hammering up a hill after symptomatic seat tube expansion(?).. it sounded like a gunshot when the weld snapped.

It was replaced with another Hoo-Koo-E-Koo frame and that was replaced under warranty as well as it was going to snap as well.

Paid the difference and upgraded to a Fisher Paragon which was simply awesome but after a three years the frame got really tired and would change gears whenever I stood up to hammer because of all the sideways frame flex. That bike got ripped off (Toronto is unfortunately the bike theft capital of the world) and got a Cannondale F700 factory replica with Volvo stickers on it! This bike is simply awesome but I still miss my Paragon sometimes!

Kieth Bontrager built the first (EVER) sloping top tubed mtb. he invented the monostay (both if which feature in fisher's "revolutionary" new geometry) he also (along with Paul Turner; the creator of mass mkt. mtb suspension) created the triple clamp fork: i still have an original Bontrager Fork from... oooh 89 or so. i worked for, and in, the industry from 88 to 94 and saw the evolution (and disolution in Bontrager's case) of both companies.

a look at Fisher's current hardtails is like looking a Bontrager catalog from 11-12 years ago... short chainstays, gusseted head-tubes, sloping toptubes and the signature; monostay.

The whole genisis idea is that a bike handles better with longer top tubes and shorter chainstays (unless you are short torsoed). I can vouch that it works.

I have been riding a Mt. Tam all over the country for a couple of years and loving every minute of it. I don't think you would be dissapointed with any of the hardtails, but I can't comment about the sugars. The joshuas frames have a design flaw that generates stress cracks after a year or two of hard riding (I went through 3 of them, which are now replaced by a supercaliber).

Gary Fisher makes some sweet bikes. I had a Joshua Z1. I broke it after many many big drops, I now have a Sugar 1 Team issue, and man is this the best XC bike. I love it. I plan on buying the Level Betty very soon due to the fact that I miss being able to do the big drops, and late night city rides. I hope they come out with a Subaru WRX Fisher Edition, say the wagon and the Joshua all in one package..http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif. That would be cool.
