I am thinking about getting a LINK ECU.....but i think that Washington state is starting to test emissions via OBD2....will me car still pass emissions if i get a plug and play LINK? Please any info will be a HUGE help!

But, you could also say that suspension mods make the car not street legal also. The car wasn't sold with that stuff.

you won't pass because they won't be able to scan your link ecu. swapping out ecu's link vs stock takes like 10 min. So don't worry about it passing, just swap it out before you go.

I've been trying to get around that too, with no real luck. I think the best bet would be to have some sort of "ghost file" of the obd2 settings available from that port. They don't jack into it while the car is running, at least here, so they aren't datalogging what your computer is doing. Does anyone know if SEMA is working on something in regards to this? (Shiv...anybody?) If there was some standard to judge these systems by, it makes sense that laws would be workable. You'd think they'd get wise and start thiinking of state licensing for these systems, and offer tuning at emissions repair shops. The only thing not making them street legal is lawyers, paperwork, and cops enforcing the laws. You can run one Cat with good tuning and still beat requirements for LEV vehicles. The computers just don't speaky OBD's engr-ish! If someone knew more about obd standards, they could build and program what they needed into the system. (Drunken post whoring rules! ;) :p) Mel

I think the problem wiht aftermarket ecu's is the fact that the end user can change the settings. You can go and pass emissions and then go home and crank everything up so that you make more power.

adamsrs: You can get the adapter harness and simply unplug the Link 2 and plug in the stock ecu and go pass emissions. It takes maybe 20min to swap em out. If you dont get the harness you can do like I did and wire in the Link harness with the stock harness so you can still go back to stock if you want.

The problem that I see is getting to the test site. You can't realy run the stock ECU if you are bootsing :( to get to the shop.

So don't go into boost ;)

Man another good reason I like the upstate NY no emissions test.

adam, get a cheap apt up in Bellingham you don't need emissions there.

Someone else, last week posted that they couldn't pass emissions so they had to buy $400 worth of emission parts and then the state would just pass them.

Or you can just get a PO box in a county that doesn't require emissions then register the car there (but I don't know how that would fly with the higher ups ;) )

I tried the PO box thing when I lived in Reno way back, but they required a resadentail address. They were just like "so you live in your PO box?" Didn't quite fly :rolleyes:
