No. Larry was using the SDS extra injector controller, not their ecu.

It seems like a sweet way to go and these guys have been doing subaru engines in aero applications forever, so the technical support is definitely there.

It lacks the resolution to do any serious tuning from what I understand. You can't control fuel maps with it [as far as I know].

It's a cheap ECU which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but don't expect the features of some of the more expensive units out there.

You can get a Haltech E6k for the same price. The model SDS ECU that you'd need would be the highest price one - plus you'd still need to make a crank position sensor with it. The Haltech reads off the stock crank position sensor and is about the same price as the base unit of the SDS.

Also, remember that the stock Subaru ECU is actually a pretty serious piece of hardware. (32 bit Risk with some cool features) There's a guy locally who tunes them.

I know JA can program the stock ECU (RS or WRX).. but if I do engine swap.. then if Haltech is good.. I don't need to worry about getting engine+ecu+wirings....

Also.. if possible, I like to try do the programming myself... don't want to go throught JA all the time... or $$$ all the time!

I wasn't talking about Yoshio, but if you're in TO he's the guy. From what I understand he tunes your car "for life" when you make changes he updates the map free of charge. Also, if you're doing a haltech you still have to worry about a harness - you have to make your own. (Which is a lot of work - trust me)

They're going to have a website up sometime soon. They do a lot of Honda and Alpha stuff. - They build GT2,3,4 and 5 cars. But from their long rally history they're starting to do more Subaru stuff again.

Actually, if you caught any of the Valvoline runoffs (GT4) over the past few years the car they built (run by Jamie Houseman) has won each year.

You can get a Haltech E6K in the states for about $1300 with a flying lead loom - though if you get a WRX engine, you can get the terminated loom and it should plug right onto all the sensors if you match the car/year when ordering.

You can get Haltech's quite a bit cheaper overseas, but you'll have to find a place that'll sell to you like that as they're under "contract" and supposed to keep to the Haltech pricing scheme.
