Well, I picked up my new WRX yesterday off the lot. 2002 with all the toys. Rear diff was assembled wrong (was grinding when my foot was off the gas).

Currently waiting for my new rear end to come in tomorrow.

But, for the 12 minutes I owned the car, it was awesome!

That's what the service guy said too. He was sure he could fix it, but my dealer said I should have a whole new diff. New car shouldn't need repairing!! I agreed and just have to wait for the part to come in tomorrow...

Now that is funny :D

I hope you remember to break it in properly!!! Turbo engines in particular need care in the first 1000 miles.

Yeah, I am by the book when it comes to breaking in cars. I've owned a slew of them. This is the first off the line defect I've run into, but I won't let it tarnish my thoughts on the toy!

Which dealer did you buy it from? What color is it? I live in Londonderry so i should see you around when you get it back.

Good to hear.

In that case you dont know what awesome is yet, because you didnt let it produce any boost, did you? :D

No, I didn't get to produce boost on this one, but I did get to produce it on the ones on the lot. MANY times over.

To answer the other question, I got it in Manchester. The people there are awesome.

Don't the dealers do a pre-delivery inspection?

I guess this might just be a canadian thing.

I assumed they did. But, if you didn't coast with it in gear, you wouldn't of heard it. Foot on the gas didn't make the noise, nor the foot on the clutch.

It's possible the noise you heard while engine braking (in gear, feet off of gas and clutch) is endemic to WRXs. At least it's been discussed often in the WRX Non-Technical forum. Here's an example: http://www.i-club.com/cgi-bin/ubb6/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=28&t=003587

You're right Jon [in CT]. They seem to be hearing the same things over there, but no one else seems to worry about it. Oh well, at least my dealer is putting in a new one!

Weird... so much for Subaru's QC and your dealer's PDI system.
