Alright guys here's the skinny!

This is the new board. It will seem slow at first because unlike the prior version it caches pages. So the cache has to build up before the board speed picks up.

For those of you that still need to access your old PMs, use this link http://www.i-club.com/cgi-bin/ubb/privateview.cgi

Please note... That's only gonna work for a week, then I'm removing all the files from the old board. So you got anything important in there, you better get it out!

This version of the board does have PMs built into it. You access them from the 'my profile' link right now. However you can also have it setup so that you receive an e-mail when you get sent a PM with the content of the PM sent directly to you.

I will post more later, I'm still sorting out problems...

Yes, How do you send a new type PM to anyone without finding one of their posts. There's not new PM button in the PM section of my profile.

Also the number of days to display on a forum wil not set I want it on two days and even after deleting the cookies it still is on one day.

When someone is on your buddy list, you can easily access their account to private message them. Add someone to your buddy list if you anticipate sending many private messages to the person. If a particular person is not on your buddy list, the only way to private message the person is by accessing the profile or clicking on the PM icon on a post they have added in the forum. You may remove people from your buddy list by unchecking the boxes next to the names. The only way to add a person to your buddy list is by accessing the person's profile or on the private message page for a particular message

I agree about missing the car info. People just start talking about their car and the info was vital in finding out what kind of car they were talking about.

I've just realized that on the old board it shows the vehicles that a person owns under his/her name.. Will this be put back? Thanks!

I'm not sure why anyone is getting errors trying to access the PMs, please keep in mind, that link is just to let you access the ones you have, not write more. The new PM system here is what we are using now.

It has some flaws, but I'm looking into hacks to fix it all.

Put it this way... you only had PMs on the old version because I put them there in the first place. I will try to make things as easy to use as possible, but you have to bear with me in the meantime.

Nick, in the future if you are going to dump the PM format like this time, tell us a week in advance so we can start cleaning things out ahead of time. I had 90 PM's in the inbox and about 40 in the sent. all important and to many to save somewhere.

It is so slow now that it will take me 4 hours to clean and save.

Just got it all unscrambled from the last update.

Yeah, once the pages get cached it's pretty fast!

Where is the members' car information? It's especially important now to know whether the question being asked is about a CG8 or GDA...

Everyone give it time! Nick heavily tweaked the old code until it gave us what the board was before, and obviously this one needs a bit of tweaking still. So just hang in there and we'll all be satisfied soon. :)

BTW, I can't access my PM's in Netscape... gonna try IE and then give up otherwise. :-/

Question on searching, if its been answered sorry for this question. Will there be a way to search by member name again? I'm not going to be able to remember everyone's member# but like when I want to find a certain post by someone i use their name, not their id#...

just wondeirng if that will be implemented later on..

For those of you who think the board should not have been upgraded should know that the old version (UBB5) was getting very shakey and was taking a lot of work to keep it from crashing. The new version should take care of this. :cool:

everything is too BIG. i liked the old style. i could fit all the forums i liked on one page. now it's like 5 lines of text for each forum. i'll need a 30" monitor by next forum update.

By the way, just some fyi....it WOULD be better if page wasn't so big that we have to scroll down everytime...maybe make it alittle smaller to fit one page???

Ok... if we are playing suggestion game:

#1 - Get rid of Postcount
#2 - Ged rid of "Scooby Specialist" title, there are probably less than 20 of the members that "deserve" the title.
#3 - Re-arrange the user titles and make them "less attractive"... that way we dont have people, erm, post-whoring. (I've seen it *work* on other board, it does cut down the crap.)
#4 - Auto-delete OT posts after three days. There is *rarely* anthing worth archiving there anyway, and three days is more than enough for OT-goons to see "the next cool thing", and save the server some needless processing. :rolleyes:
#5 - Were we going to get back "favorite forums"? I only surf three forums anyway, I dont want to see all 30.
#6 - I guess this is a bug. When I was on the "iClub Chapters" page, I could not get to the full "iClub Forums" page without reloading the forums... bug?

Otherwise, good work, I know how much of a pain it is to get this software working...

I like the changes, progress is a good thing. Before you blow away the old pages, can you or someone else post the old post on the CEL codes?

The only thing that I've found that I really don't like is that when you reply to a PM, it deletes the PM from your inbox. That's really frustrating. It's also kind of frustrating not being able to see if you have any new PM's from the Forum Home page. Other than that, I think everything's great. Thanks for taking the time to keep this BB up to date, I know it must take a ton of your time.

Just found something new. Not a complaint.

Old board -- used to get notification of a new pm sent to my external email.
New board -- Same notification, but now it contains the real message when you click on it.

Interesting..... ;)

I took some creative liberties and decided to remove the number of posts per user.

We don't need it and to quote someone else... not the "post whores" won't have a reason to post nonsense just to bump their numbers.

I have about 300 saved links to posts that quit working with ubb6. Now I have to update my website for some of these links, but my saved favorites that don't work anymore can't be edited easily. :mad:

I'll still go along with whatever the Imprezidents do, but this is frustrating. :(

Just a comment...the board is practially flying now compared to earlier. Not quite as fast as the old board was for me, but much quicker.
I don't think it's really caching much on my system either(I have it turned to 1MB on IE), so I'll play with my settings. But it IS getting faster. I'm perfectly content with the current speed.

It certainly will take some getting use to for all of us, but thanks for doing this. It is an UPGRADE, remember that folks! :) That means new features, better realibility, more fun, etc...

Alright.. I just got off the phone with Tech Support from UBB. We are waiting. Apparenlty when they upgraded their server it brought it to it's knees for about 24 hours. So I'm going to call them back with the status as we go along.

In a last ditch effort, they can walk me through converting back to the old version of the board. But I am trying to avoid this. This is a needed switch for the board to remain on it's feet.

If and when all goes well and the server does finally calm down I will put the search function back online.

I already notice the speed up.. don't know what you're talking about. Of course, my line at work could just be a little freed up from people leeching MP3's today for some reason, but I doubt it.

For the record, the caching isn't local... it's done on the server. Whatever caching your browser does is independant of what's happening over here.

Well, so far I'm split about 50/50 on liking this new version...Unfortunately, that 50 I don't like is some major stuff :P But I'm sure once Nick tweaks this version up, we'll all like it...I like the instant Graemlins, they're neato :P...Of course I've been around long enough to know all the commands to get them...

Thanks for the hard work, guys. I like the new look and I'm sure the little things'll straighten out soon enough. I do have one tiny suggestion, though... Would it be possible to get rid of the JavaScript (without looking, I'm assuming that's how it's done) that doesn't show a link as underlined until you roll over it? For those of us with color deficiencies (not quite color blind, but close sometimes), it's real tough to tell what is a link and what's not. Otherwise, looking good!

I'm a little disappointed to hear all you younguns complain about change. Us old fogies have learned that change is just a fact of life. Get with the program. Give Nick a little credit. It looks really clean, we'll all learn to like it and even start to forget what the old one was like before you know it!
