View Full Version : Are these link buggs solved?

I was reading some past thrends because I just bought the link.

There is a throttle position bug that makes the car feel like it hits a wall every once in a while. Just for a split second.

Also, the closed loop tuning pretty much sucks. It tries to lean out the fuel too much at higher MAP settings - its ok for getting the cruise numbers correctly, but there is no way to telling it to look at numbers only BELOW a certain RPM... in fact, the limit is set to look at numbers only ABOVE a certain RPM, which is pretty much backwards.

You can set different voltages for different MAP zones, but even with that, if you shift, it sees it as a rich environment, and subtracts fuel.

Personally, I love my Link, even with those two problems. The TPS bug only happens on WOT after multiple runs (say at a race track, or very spirited driving), and the closed loop tuning can get you close... but you just have to make sure to shut it off or it WILL get you (I know this firsthand)

I personally have never experienced the "TPS bug" but I have the V1.3 Link board and run the latest PCLink software. The latest PCLink software was supposed to fix the "wandering master fuel setting" but I caught it move once so far (about 3 weeks with it).

The close-loop lambda auto-tune is decent at tuning voltage levels close to stoich but I don't like it becuase it usually doesn't give you a very smooth transitioning fuel map. You only really hit certain fuel spots really well with it. Also if your worried about it over-compensating when shifting (overly rich conditions) occur you shouldn't have a problem as the Link only varies the fuel cells at a slower and slower rate with decreasing rpms. So in short the lower the rpm you are at the slower it will "adjust" things.

I personally only drove around with autotune for 45 mintues once MAKING a point to NOT go over 5psi of boost. But in the end I just looked at the values in the map that it settled on, took the average of that cell and corresponding cells to left/right/up/down and used that average value for most of the row while richening it up very slightly as the rpms increased in the row.

If you get the chance, try running the AC on while cruising on the interstate (road trip situation) for over an hour at light throttle and see if your car dies after a while. I would be curious if yours does or doesn't even if you have or haven't upgraded your fuel pump. Just trying to get more information on a problem me and another Link user are experiencing.

It wont be here for a week. I bought DarthChicken's software. Could you tell me more about the wondering master fuel setting so that I can watch it. Also when does it move. I dont know what version of software he has. He said that somthing about the wondering fuel MFS. I wonder if Darth had the tps problem with his software. Or maby it is user error. I wont be using the auto tune though. Im going to set up some dyno tune time. Is there any other values that I have to watch out for. Im new to all of this so bare with me. Im sure once I break my new motor in and plug in the link I will have tons of questions.

Guess I better post :)

Master fuel only moves during two occasions.

#1 - when you run a log, and don't save it (the "save log" dialog box comes up, and you say "no")

#2 - When you store your map, and the "save log" dialog box comes up, and you say "no"

That is it. And if you go to the forums page on the link homepage, and read this post:

http://forums.link-electro.co.nz/1028219941/index_html

You can see they have admitted the error, and will incorporate the fix in the next software release. They release updates about once a month btw.

Don't use the closed loop for anything but light throttle, ie nothing over about row 60. Use it to tune only (by driving) and then shut it off. It WILL bite you if you leave it on.

Feel free to email me at any point mrtrex, I've been using it for a while, I just wanted to try something new for a while.

David, I already PM'd Jay on this. As you probably know I uploaded his Link map yesterday. Today I experienced a complete fuel cut on two occasions. First after driving the car about 30 minutes, and then again 10 minutes later. I was not running ANY accessories at the time, and yes I do have an upgraded FP (GSS342). I had to key-off, and then the car started just fine.

The first time I had been pushing the car at a brisk pace and then just begun cruising. The second time I was slowly pulling into my driveway, and the symptoms were identical: Touch the gas, and the motor cuts. After a second or two it won't even idle, and it completely dies. Could not hear the fuel pump running.

See my post in RMIC.

Bingo. He is right on there. Just keep an eye on it. I noticed it mostly with my wideband. I would start leaning out EVERYWHERE, light throttle to full throttle then I would check it and sure enough the master fuel setting (mine is 85 btw) would be 1 or 2 less than what I originally had it set to.

Pace - Yah I saw your post in RMIC about it. At I now know what fuel pump your running.
