View Full Version : Give me your opinion...
nikkicalves 06-14-2001, 04:58 PM Well,
Here is my situation. I have always been afraid of theft of my car. I park in direct view of the street(end of driveway) and I have no other choice but to park there. My car is a year old, 2 dents numerous scratches, and now wingless. My neighborhood isn't bad at all. But I now fear that the theives know where I live and if they wanted to they will come back for whatever they need. I have seriously thought about selling my baby, even though I really don't want to. I would love to move out but I have tried to get a good enough paying job to support myself. My insurance is going to skyrocket with my next claim, and I am not sure what I can do. I am upgrading my alarm, but I don't think that this will stop them. What should I do - Sell?
Reflex-Arc 06-14-2001, 05:26 PM Have you seen that anti theft device that shoots flame 4 feet out of the side of the car when someone attempts theft or carjacking?
I'd say you should get one of those ;).
Really though, sorry to hear of your troubles. I can't say anything similar has happened to me... yet. (knock on wood)
munkis 06-14-2001, 05:36 PM Its really sad that we even half to consider things like this, but hey thats the world we live in :(.
Sorry to here about your situation, I myself have had one of my cars stolen, and it sucks, one of the worst feelings I have ever had, and it wasnt even my scooby! Where I use to live, I had my scooby for over a year, I thought it would have been stolen in the first 3 months I owened it but it wasnt.
What did I do,.. always parked as close to my house as possible, have and alarm and the club.
I know how you feel, I have many scratches my car was sideswiped while it was parked, and every time I look at I find another blemish. Thankfully I have moved to a much better neighborhood so the car is pretty safe now, but still scared.
I dont know what other advice I can offer, just keep a close eye on your car, upgrade the alarm, get the club or that pedel lock one, I would get that one. Basically get a couple layers of protection, sadly if they want your car bad enough they will get it no matter how much security you have...this is why you have insurance. So I say keep the car, what happens will happen.
Your insurance shouldnt go up if you make a theft claim for the wing, or if your car was vandilized, my insurance company paid 1300 for the sideswipe and my insurance hasnt gone up. Who is your carrier?
Good Luck

I would suggest aiming a camcorder at the car, and let it tape every night until something happens. You'd be surprised how often someone you know is the one doing the vandalism, someone like a co-worker. If you have the tape as evidence, you could have them arrested, and make em pay for the damages.
Friend of mine had something like this happen. When he reviewed the tape, he found out that it was his next door neighbor breaking into his car looking for money/cds/etc. When he was confronted with the tape, he paid for the damages, no questions asked.

Andre Vandenberg 06-14-2001, 06:01 PM let me know if you want the flame tosser.... I know the people that make them in South Africa  ;) :D
wrxboi 06-14-2001, 11:42 PM Get a Pitbull and tie it up close to your car. I had something similar happen to me and I put my 3 year old pitbull out that nite. They came back the next nite. I saw them but couldn't do anything, cuz i live on the 2nd floor. Aniways, they saw my pit and took off. Glad to say they never came back. Now I have moved to a new and very nice neiborhood. I know how you feel. I had my car broken into three times and stolen once.
Or get a gun. Sorry to say but idiots like these that don't give a s**t about other peoples property, too god damn lazy to get a job, and think that ripping other peoples stuff off is fun don't deserve simpathy from me.
Kostamojen 06-15-2001, 12:56 AM My neighbor has one of those security camera's... Caught there car being broken into twice on tape, definatly worth it!
But I would just get the club, an alarm, and a car cover...
But dont forget, if it gets stolen/robed your insurance covers it! :p
nikkicalves 06-15-2001, 05:48 AM Thanks a lot guys. I am going this weekend to get my alarm to be paranoid at the rear(motion detector) And my family has decided to get some motion flood lights and a camera hooked up to a VCR. Hopefully they will stay away until we can get these things in place. But man is it going to cost me.
Nick. ;)
I got ya's all beat:
Alarm, Club, Ignition cut out, and LoJack getting installed on the 22nd.
I live in a good hood but I'm just paranoid.
Tats.
