After having my Subie for over a month, I finally realized something today while driving back from Schlotzsky's. My cup holder places my drink directly in front of the air conditioner vent. Hmm..

I was like: whoa! cool!

Hah. Well, of course I live in Texas. Not much of a winter here. (Lived in Nebraska & Iceland : Wish I had had my Subie then!)

Yea, but think about it... you're more likely to be drinking a warm beverage in the winter and a cool one in the summer. Pretty good idea, I think.

Well, I just thought it was bad a$$. I remember with my last vehicle on road trips, I would have a bottled drink and I'd put it up on the dash and turn on the window vents w/ac on to cool it back off.

Any liquid right above buttons, radios and climate controls is a -bad idea-.

Cupholder, shmupholder.

One hand for the wheel, one for the shifter.

No food, drink, or loose items in high g environments. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif

Scott - I agree. That includes other people. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/lol.gif

But a man on his lunch break has to have a way to get the food back to the office. I assure you though, all containers are sealed and my driving is toned down quite a bit.

Liquids above electronics, buttons, and vents IS bad mojo.

It's bad for a couple of reasons... I remember a family trip in our brand new grand caravan (back in '89). We drove to Cali, and somewhere we decided to get some pepsi. The dash vents in the old caravan were right above the cupholders. So when we started pouring the warm pepsi through the cold AC air it foamed up and blew all over the place.
Then the tranny went out with under 5k miles.

Pepsi? What's all this crap about Pepsi? Didn't we decide on this board a few months ago that Coke is clearly superior?

Yeah I thought it was a great idea until, spillage and the condensation kept dripping on my stereo controls. Now everything sticks and feels like its going to snap...I have to constantly wipe it down.

Why am I reading this message string? It's so ridiculous it's mesmerizing. Wow. What are we going to conversate on next, what we put in our center console? http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/tongue.gif

It is actually pretty ****ty location.

Stuff always spills and slops all over vents, A/C controlls and stereo.

Plus you MUST stick with hot drinks in the Winter and cold in the summer. If it is other way around then your favorite fluid is getting wrong kind of treatment.

Eugene

PS: not as bad as one inside center console. That was soooo awfull. I broke mine off lke 4th day or so.

I've never had a problem with the drink in front of the vents. I always have cold drinks in the winter, and I don't really mind the hot air blowing on them. It's also awesome to have a drink cooler in the summers in Texas, that's for sure. I've never had a spill on the instrument panel, except I do keep my music player in the little compartment directly below all that, so it gets dripped on sometimes, but no big deal. And I like having the center console drink holder, it's good for a second person, or for extended trips when I don't want my music player getting soaked.

I think that cup holder is pretty weak. I've now ban beverages from the damn car. Every time coffee or soda spills it will go right down the face plate of the tape and cd player. Great design. Probably it was the same dumb a$$ that designed the tranny.

I banned drinks from the cup holder also. I've had two accidents already where the drink ended up on my passenger side and divers side (all over me). You think I would of learned my lesson the first time. But I like the way it handles around turns. And as for the center console. Sunglasses and a small Mag-lite I got as a gift form the dealer.
