View Full Version : Water in my trunk...
If anyone has ever driven the Oregon Coast Hwy 101, you know how twisty the road is. Well, it was dumping buckets of rain yesterday.....could I have flexed the car, in a turn, enough to spead the trunk seal, allowing water to drip in? It wasn't much(looked like a cup of water spilled), but sure was a surprise.

Subie Gal 03-19-2001, 12:31 PM weird! i've driven 101 and havent had that happen... yet...
um...
check the seal all the way around on your trunk just to insure that nothing is broken or missing... it should not do that...
weirdness!

Mauricio 03-19-2001, 02:18 PM Where are the leaks coming from?
Peaty 03-19-2001, 03:04 PM One way to tell if the weather strip is OK is to close a small strips of paper in the trunk and see if you can pull it out. Where was the water? Is that clear tube in place in front of your jack? That is the drain for the sunroof.
It seemed to come from the top middle. I have a medium sized rubber made box strapped down in there, and the top had water drops on it that dripped down to the carpet.
I'll have to try that paper trick, thanks for that one.

D-Rock 03-19-2001, 07:52 PM My 2001 has the same problem I think. I haven't had time to take a good look but my windows fog up like crazy all the time. I think it's because water is in the trunk. I noticed my trunk was a little moist one time I was in there. Really makes me mad when the water is beading up inside on the windows and I can't see diddley and I have to keep the rear defrost on all the time. Kinda sucks having to deal with little problems like this and the car is only 2 months old.
adhowe70 03-19-2001, 08:52 PM I found water in my trunk, but it was because I put my wet tarp in the trunk after I was done running at Icebreaker two weeks ago. Aired everything out and its been dry since. I hope you figure it out and get it fixed - my last car leaked pretty badly. It was an SOB to fix.
BTW - chech out the Subrew web page. They have an in-car video from the Acura ITR that won GS. It rocks.

AliBenn 03-19-2001, 10:20 PM i'm an insurance adj====>seen it b4 in other cars after an axx. and it happened to me in my scoobie. one the bottem of each corner of the rear window is a rubber seal connected to a black piece of alumn tht runs from the rear window all the way to the top corners of the frnt winshield. the rubber should seal/press against the rear window. if you can press down on the black alumn and it rises back up tht means its not water tight. the only thing tht holds this black strip to the rear window is a small plastic clip. a bodyshop broke the clip and water was slowly leaking in.
if its a new car.....the dealer will fix for sure!

AWDrivin 03-20-2001, 01:08 AM Any chance you've changed your stock rear clusters to the red/clears? If you didn't seal them properly they will leak...
Just a thought.

100% Stock. 7 months old. just turned 3k miles on the odometer.
Silver2000RS 03-20-2001, 01:23 AM If your trunk weatherstip is okay, then your trunk probably isn't closing tight enough. It's very easy to tighten the seal by adjusting the latch stiker plate. The striker plate is bolted to the body (not the trunk lid) with two bolts. Loosen these bolts, slide the stiker plate a little lower and retighten the bolts. If you don't want to do this yourself, then the dealer can do it for you.
HoratioCaine 03-20-2001, 01:26 AM 7 months, 3000 miles??? http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/eek.gif

ImprezedRS 03-20-2001, 01:46 AM Well mine is like 6 months old and has like 17k miles but no leaks in he trunk though
quikE 04-24-2001, 12:38 AM this post is a little old but I was doing a search for similar problems and solutions. My car is a little more than six months old HEHE-almost 21,000 miles on it. um anyways, I have noticed water in my trunk for several months but didnt know where it was comming from till today after driving through the rain to my shop to do a massive trunk weight reduction. I noticed DIRTY water spots and other outside fithy meaning that this water was not leaked in from simple rain. I believe this is comming from under the vehicle. water and grim found in both rear fender wells (i.e.- like where the jack is). Also while on the jenny craig program, I removed the all the "I guess you could call that" trunk interior. Interesting enough when taking out that liner that goes around the sides I found a small hole on each side, each face the trunk opening and are actually kinda high up. I believe this is also part of the fender wells.?. I noticed at these places where also signs of where filthy water had left dirt/water spots trickling down. I am friends with the owner of a very good body shop, he's not diddly with tuning but he knows bodys, anyway, I am going to confront him with the problem within the next few days. It will be fixed, so if anyone is still interested in this thread let me know and I will relay the info.
HEY this is my first post!

p.s.-anyone in need of trunk interior?
