View Full Version : LINK works great ! Very happy user
alfriedesq 08-22-2002, 09:39 AM Got my LINK this week. Don't really know why I waited so long to try this thing out. The first one I got did not work and the guy who I bought it from - Andrew at CarModifications.com a/k/a AMR bent over backwards to fed ex me out a brand new unit no questions asked - that guy is all about 100% customer service !!!
As for the LINK - I love the softwear - it blows away the other tuning programs that I was used to e.g. with the TEC II - its really easy to use the PC LINK
The car ran GREAT on the installed base map - it would run fine as a daily driver
I easily found some other maps on the i-lcub and plugged in one of those and hit the dyno - - it was amazing how quickly I was off and into some serious tuning
I really like the driveability and feel of the link on the road
No numbers to report becuase I need a 3 BAR map sensor - it seems the stock sensor is only good for about 22.5 psi
In the meantime - if you want a easy to install and tune stand alone that works great at a moderate price - this is the one
Z1 Performance 08-22-2002, 12:38 PM Well, I would beg to difer with you about the software (it all comes down to what you are used to running) but I agree that the LINK is a GREAT tuning tool for its price.
While it won't do as much as more expensive standalones, it doesn't need to, and frankly, 99% of the people out there don't need an ecu as powerful as a TEC2 or Pectel, etc. for their street cars.

HomeGrownXC 08-22-2002, 02:31 PM Hello,
I'm a brand new LINK owner and a very novice tuner. Can you please direct me to a base map I can use to get me to the pro shop, so that they can tune it for me (about 100 miles away).
Here is the current list of my performance mods:
MRT 3" turbo back exhaust system
MRT cat-less up-pipe
MRT front mounted intercooler w/ pipe assembly
MRT Unifilter air intake
MRT TMS2 Boost Control Unit
IHI VF30 turbo
STi Fuel injectors
Walbro 255 high pressure fuel pump
Fluidyne Aluminum Radiator
HKS SS BOV with return
GFB Underdrive pulleys
Any help is appreciated, thanks - Greg
SFastWRX 08-22-2002, 02:39 PM There's a base map on the Link. Just "reload"
alfriedesq 08-22-2002, 02:50 PM The base map is good for the stock injectors - - when I get home to my lap top I will email you a couple of base maps for sti injectors that should run you OK so long as you don;t try and go crazy with the boost

www.z1auto.com I guess everyone has thier own taste on soft wear - I really like the way the link has on the fly set up compred to the TEC which I did not care for - I'm sure the wintec3 is superior to the tec II one I was susing anyway
What I like about the link is the excelent driveability feel you can get very quickly - - from myh experience it takes many hours of work to get those other stand alones you wire in to have that stock like feel
I was impressed with how quickly i was able to dial in this link with internet gathered maps and have it running just as good as the stock ecu
I was very very impressed with Willie's car - the way it drove was fantastic
It remains to be seen how the peak HP output will be after i get the 3 bar map sensor - but so far I like what I see

WinTEC3 (currently WinTEC 3.06) is *so* much more user friendly than WinTEC2. Everything is adjustable, every curve programmable. There's more than enough computer in the TEC3 to do ten times the things it does, where as the TEC2 computer was pretty much maxed out already.
Sorry WinTEC2 confused you so much, but good for you that you've found and can understand the LINK.
Z1 Performance 08-22-2002, 03:17 PM Also depends what version sopftware you were using. I know I ahve sent my TEC2 back a few times for updates and each time I got hte latest gen software which was much imporved over the previous version.

christoph1371 08-22-2002, 05:16 PM I am glas to hear that more people are getting on board wiht the link. I can remember telling people I was using this 1 yr ago and I couldn't stop from being flammed all day long.
Happy Tuning:)
skywalker 08-22-2002, 05:43 PM And the truth shall set you free...
How many times have we been flamed Chris? It is great to hear that you like the Link, as Z1 Performance said for the price you get everything you need for a street car setup.
As said by you,"excelent driveability feel you can get very quickly"...
Anyone with questions or need help with tuning, don't hesitate to ask. I am more then willing to help.
bobgrice 08-22-2002, 06:11 PM Has the Link's price decreased any over the past 6 months, or is it still in the $1200 - $1400 range?
wcbjr 08-22-2002, 06:18 PM Same price, actually the Plug 'N Play Link for my RS is 1450 new.
WRX-ellent 08-22-2002, 06:39 PM Hello...I, too, am a new Link owner. I am running into some boost issues. Does anyone here know why I am only able to achieve 13 psi of boost at the most no matter what boost settings I put (past 13 psi of course)? I was thinking it could be a leak but when I was using an sbc-id, I could boost all the way to 20 psi if I wanted to. Could it be the factory boost solonoid? My mods...
Uppipe
3 inch turbo back
Blitz FMIC
Blitz SUS filter
Vishnu UDP
PE1820f
Thanks...

SFastWRX 08-22-2002, 09:49 PM For me, the magic number was 16 psi with the stock solenoid and the Link. I solved the problem by using a Blitz DSBC. Now I have very good control, as well as the ability to change settings at the turn (or push) of a knob or two while driving.
WRX-ellent 08-22-2002, 09:57 PM I kinda firgured...
I do have an SBC-id but would rather use the link and the stock solonoid. I'll probably go that route and use the SBC-id in conjunction with the Link...
Thanks...
~joe
DeliciouSpeed 08-22-2002, 10:31 PM i belive the stock solenoid wont be stable above anything like 17psi i've read. get the 3port from subaruparts.com you wont regret it.
ken
WRX-ellent 08-22-2002, 10:54 PM Hey...wassup Ken?!? How you been?!? How's the car? Anyway, thanks, I'll probably just stick to the sbc since I already have it...

homegrownxc@yahoo.com and I update my profile as well. Thanks again.
skywalker 08-23-2002, 02:50 AM Yeah this boost problem is really annoying me. Some cars have absolutely no problem with any WRXLink. Then other cars I can never get to work above 13 PSI even with the Links that worked fine in the other cars. I am not sure if Subaru decided to wire things slightly differently or what, but there is something odd going on in Subaru world.
One quick solution are aftermarket Boost Solenoids. Everyone seems to use them with the Link so they can change the boost whenever they feel like it. With the Link there is a little more work involved.
WRX-ellent 08-23-2002, 03:10 AM A little more work? What's involved? I guess we can look at this over the weekend...

Blugin 08-23-2002, 03:19 AM Is anyone running the 44STi ? Al, is that what you're running seeing as how you have an STi motor and all? I am thinking of switching to that board pretty soon just for the anti-lag and 2-stage rev limit. I think those features are going to be key at the dragstrip. Also, if you are like Al, it lets you play with your valve timing control. Have you played with anti-lag?
