View Full Version : How much Dynamat does the Impreza take?
WRSport 05-28-2001, 09:25 PM Want to do front doors, Full Floor,Under Back Seats,Side of Backseats, Full Trunk.
Approx guess would be helpful even. Also, jeez whats this all gonna weigh?
Thanks,
Chris Brunell
Overtime 05-28-2001, 09:37 PM I used 6sq ft on my doors-double layered it-and that still hasn't taken away all the rattles.
If I had to guess, I'd say 30 sq ft. You're going to have to layer it on with the doors and the rear deck, and just doing one layer for the trunk and the seats should bump you to 30.
Weight? I have no idea, but good sound deadening is heavy.
Aaron'z 2.5RS 05-29-2001, 12:51 AM The more............the better........very heavy doh.

Seeing StaRS 05-29-2001, 01:17 AM oooh geez, thats gonna cost an arm and a leg!
annointed 05-29-2001, 08:20 PM You could watch ebay, type in "dynomat" and pick up a trunk kit, door kit, or just plain ol sheets of original dynamat, xtreme dynamat, etc.
I got a dynamat trunk kit for $43.50 through ebay, and the dynamat 5 in 1 spray for $15 through ubid.com. Tough to beat those prices.
Good luck.
Overtime 05-29-2001, 09:16 PM Go to mcmaster.com and search for "acoustical damping sheet."
That's generic Dynamat at a very low price. A little thinner and not as sticky, but your wallet will thank you.
Seeing StaRS 05-29-2001, 11:06 PM Whoa cool! Thanks for posting that Overtime , I will definately keep them in mind when I put the stereo in my RS to be. Dynamat is just so friggin expensive!!!!
Overtime 05-30-2001, 02:00 PM No sweat. I have never used it myself but I hear it's very good quality stuff, not the rebadged roofing material some places sell. And the company is supposed to have excellent service.
dada21 05-31-2001, 08:41 AM Make sure it is not roofing material!
I've been fighting the roofing material for years because I had friends years ago who tried it probably before anyone else, and their cars smelled and stunk bad forever!
I've tried a LOT of cheap substitutes, and unfortunately, none of them seemed to have the sound deadening and _lifespan_ of the dynamat products. My first dynamatted car is still holding up great with VERY few squeaks or vibrations. My friend's car with the cheap substitute squeaked and vibrated after one summer, requiring a re-do...
BuRnToAsT420 05-31-2001, 06:30 PM If your looking for a cheap, yet good way to sound deaden your car, go to partsexpress.com. They have dampening material that is just as good as dynamat at a fraction of the cost. You get about 12 sq. feet for about $18 and if you buy more than (3) 12 sq. ft. sheets, you get them for $16.50 a sheet. You can almost triple layer your car for about $100. This is what I did, and I am more than pleased with the results. Check out their website and see what you think.
imprezadan 05-31-2001, 07:46 PM Find someone who can get Dynamat for you with an employee discount. Make friends with someone that works at Best Buy or something. You wouldn't believe how much this stuff is marked up by!
WRSport 05-31-2001, 08:16 PM Thanks BurnToast420,
This is it folks >>>>
The Only way to sound proof...Dynamat Quality - priced in reality (http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&PartNumber=268-020&DID=7)
barrymazza.com 06-01-2001, 08:04 AM I would suggest buying the Ultimate Dynamat for the doors and do the rest of the car in the partexpress stuff....but then again that is just my 2 cents.

froggert 06-01-2001, 08:45 AM how well does the parts express stuff stick? is extra adhesive required for the door or trunk lid type areas?
JayGold 06-01-2001, 11:43 AM There are many inferior sound deadening products on the market, be careful which one you purchase. I have worked with all kinds of dynamat- spray, sheet, foam expander, carpet padding, etc. Dependent on the temperatures the vehicle see's, the deadening material will contract, expand, become more or less sticky over time. Dynamat Original I would never use on sheetmetal, it decomposites it's stickeyness in less than 1 year. Generally I use this mat between the layers of fiberglass kick panels and sub enclosures, it's cheap! For sheetmetal I recommend Dynamat Super Premium mat, any Vblock product, Rockford spray.
WRSport 06-02-2001, 01:35 AM After some more thought and research Im actually going to use Dynamat brand products
(A Combination of Original and Super Premium). Its going to cost more but I want to do this right the first time. I will post detailed info once I'm done with the project.
