RalliSpec
08-30-2002, 05:21 PM
We have the opportunity to offer the following special pricing on IHI turbos provided we get at least 8 buyers:

IHI VF34 -- The newest IHI turbo to be used on a Subaru model. This turbo is a ball bearing unit for quickest spool up. Used on the STi Type RA spec C. This is an upgrade over the VF30. - $1295 shipped!
---new price $1250 shipped!

IHI VF30 -- Used on the STi Ver.7 models. Not a ball bearing turbo but mates the high flowing compressor housing of the VF22 with the quicker spooling turbine of the VF28. The next best thing to a VF34.
-- $940 shipped!

IHI VF22 -- The big one. For seriously modified WRX's capable of supporting boost levels over 20psi. Ball bearing center section. More lag then the VF30 & VF34 but able to flow higher boost levels.
-- $825 shipped!

This group buy is open until September 12th. We must get at least 8 orders to offer this price level. Payment is required no later then September 12th. Visa, MC, Amex, or Paypal. Or send a check/money order. Shipping is included on all orders from within the US or Canada.

New changes: group buy is official at 5 orders.
Price lowers by $25 on any turbo if we get 8 orders
Price lowers by another $15 ($40 total discount off above pricing) on any turbo once we get 10 orders.

That's $55 cheaper than www.gruppe-s.com

An chance of getting a better deal if 10 or more people join cause I would be in if it was $1,200 for the vf34

It is still a good deal though.

ok, so how many people do you have so far? I want a VF22

Ok...here is the deal.

I don't have any firm orders yet. Please contact us by phone, fax, or email if you are definite on this.

I am making the following changes:

I am dropping the price on the VF34 to $1250 shipped.

The group buy is official if we get 5 firm orders by the 12th.

If we get 8 firm orders by the 12th then all the prices drop by $25.
If we get 10 firm orders by the 12th then all the prices drop by another $15.

Sorry but that's the lowest I can go!

So as an example: a VF34 is $1250 shipped if we get 5 people total, $1225 if we get 8 people, and $1210 if we 10 people!

as another example: a VF22 is $825 at 5 people, $800 at 8 people, and $785 at 10! ...shipping included.

Please be aware...there may be limitations on the number of VF34's available for fast delivery as its a relatively new turbo. Orders over 5 or 6 VF34's and there may be additional delays. But VF22 and VF30's are definitely not a problem within reason.

Let's see if we can get some orders going.

is the Vf22 or the Vf34 capable of more boost? Is this setup ok with only exhaust , intake, and boost controller upgrade? are there any other turbos that can bolt up with more boost and how do these compare to the PE1818. performance and price comparison

As I'm in NJ, how much would you charge for fitting a VF30 for me?

Come on folks, this a great deal, even better with more orders!

Mazdryk -- the VF22 will flow more then the VF34. Unfortunately I don't have all the exact specs on the VF34 so its hard to give an exact comparison. But my understanding is the VF34 has a similar sized compressor side with a smaller turbine side. This gives it decent flow without a lot of lag. But at the higher flow rates the VF34 will be fighting the restricton of the smaller turbine and so will generate more heat then the VF22. This makes the VF22 better for high boost/high flow applications. I think the VF34 is a newer generation turbo as well so the impeller designs and housing aerodynamics may have been improved since the VF22.
For exhaust, intake and boost controller only -- I'd say the VF34 is the better way to go. For major mods like stroker kits & front mount IC's the VF22 is probably a better choice.
There may be people out there with more info then I can offer. I welcome any comments?

robroy72 -- installation on a turbo runs about $300 including replacement of gaskets.

mattjk -- the minimum order quantity applies to any combination of VF22, VF30, and VF34's. So we just need to get 5 orders total in any combination to be official.

Anybody who is interested needs to call or email with a firm order. That means I need your billing and shipping info. If each person who has commented here puts an order through we will have 5 easy....maybe even 8.

Vivid Racing has a group buy going on with these prices, anyway you could go a little lower?

VF34 STI Type RA turbo ball bearing - $1199
VF30 STI turbo non ball bearing - $875
VF23 GC STI ball bearing turbo - $750
VF22 GC BIG Turbo - $750

I'm going to have to cancel out of this, don't have enough money in my account anymore. Something came out. Thanks again.

RalliSpec

Regretfully I think we are going to cancel this group buy. I have recieved word from our supplier that another customer of theirs has jumped in and bought up all the VF34 turbos that he had in stock. So lead time would be like 10-12 weeks on those.

That and the fact that several confirmed customers have jumped ship and canceled their orders (perhaps to get a slightly better discount from Vivid) has really made this whole thing a disaster.

I can say this...pretty much all the vendors in these forums are getting their turbos from the same place. Once you add in the credit card processing fees and the shipping (is Vivid including shipping?) the profit margin is no more then $10-20 per turbo. So if Vivid only wants to make that much on them then there is not much I can do.

For those that are interested we are still placing a turbo order for turbos on the 12th of September for our own stock. As a good will gesture to anyone who got screwed on this we will pass along our exact cost to you if you order your turbo the same time that we place our stock order (this excludes other vendors). I would expect the prices to be something like this:

VF34 -- $1075
VF30 -- $845
VF22 -- $735

Obviously exact cost will depend on what the shipping totals. Also if you pay by check, money order, or cash you can save another 2 to 2.5% because of the processing fees.

I will not guarrantee delivery time. Prepay is required by the 12th. No minimum orders. This is not a group buy anymore...this is simply a one time possibility of getting the best possible pricing. I will not field any more questions on this thread. If you already placed an order then you need to re-place the order just to confirm. If you have not placed an order yet but want to get in on this then you need to contact us by phone or fax no later then the 12th.

I'm sorry about the confusion.

Regards,
Dave Anton

Just to clear one thing up....the estimated price in my post above DOES include shipping but because we are supplying these at our exact final cost the shipping could vary that estimate (I estimated based on what it might cost to ship somewhere in the middle of the country...West coast prices may be slightly higher, East coast slightly lower).

Leonardo,

Sorry about the multiple group buy listings. We were not aware of that limitation.

Please move the Bosal Downpipe thread to Vendor In-stock Sales because we are now stocking that item.

Please close the STi Super Group Buy as that group buy is over and we do not plan to continue that (all prepaid STi (non-stock)orders from Japan will get a 5% discount from now on just like the group buy).

As for this thread, if you could leave it up for a day or two to allow anyone who had placed an order or was thinking about placing an order to view it. After that I'd like it closed.

Its unlikely we will put together any future group buys. Its too difficult to organize when people continually turn around and cancel there orders after they place them.

THIS GROUP BUY IS OFFICIALLY CLOSED

As of the 12th of Oct.(TYPO! As per the first post, September 12th was the end date for this GB 10/11/02) we were not taking any more turbo orders at the prices listed in this gropu buy thread. Those turbos have been delivered to their new homes.

If you wish to purchase a turbo from us it will be at our standard pricing. Currently we have VF34 and VF30 turbos in stock. Lead time on other VF series turbos should be reasonably quick.

Our standard pricing on turbos is as follows:

VF22 -- $849
VF23 -- $899
VF29 -- $899
VF30 -- $925
VF34 -- $1189
VF35 -- $1189
--Prices do not include shipping..$15 is typical for west coast, $8 for east coast--

Regarding turbo sizing and spec. -- Basically all of the above turbos utilize one of three turbine housings (P20, P18, and P15) combined with one of three impeller (compressor) designs.

The VF22 combines the largest turbine (P20) with a large 5-blade impeller. This turbo will flow more then any of the other VF series turbos and at reasonably high boost levels. But it has maximum lag. Good for top end performance....including drag use. Will work well with internal engine mods.

The VF23 uses the same turbine (P20) as the VF22 but combines it with the smaller impeller used on the VF29. The result is slightly better midrange response at some reduction in high boost capabilities.

The VF29 uses the middle size P18 turbine with the small impeller as used on the VF23. This is essentially identical in spec. to the VF28 and the VF24. Best all around response and driveability of all the VF series but not capable of serious boost levels.

The VF30 uses the same P18 turbine for good response but combines it with a large impeller similar in size to the VF22 but with a revised 6-blade design. This is the best option for the average customer. Good response but works well with significant bolt-on upgrades.

The VF34 is identical to the VF30 but is ball bearing for increased reliability and slightly improved response.

The VF35...supposedly now being used on the STi RA. Very small P15 turbine housing. Not sure on compressor sizing. Fast response but no top end. Ball bearing turbo. Like the VF29, geared toward rally use with 32mm restrictor.

Lastly...when Subaru fits the IHI ball bearing turbos at the factory it uses a special banjo bolt on the oil feed line with a fine mesh screen to prevent the possibility of debris damaging the ball bearing. I know most people are not fitting this special banjo fitting because they are not aware of it. It is probably a good idea to fit this on any ball bearing turbo. We are working to try and get an inventory of these banjo bolts so we can send them out to anyone who purchases a ball bearing turbo from us. This may increase the pricing by about $10. They will also be available for sale to anyone who already has a ball bearing turbo and wishes to install it. Price will be $10 shipped. It may be several weeks before we have these fittings in stock.
