View Full Version : oil change intervals Glockperfection 09-14-2002, 10:00 PM hmm the manaul's interval is 7500, is this really safe for the engine? munkis 09-14-2002, 10:55 PM I would stick with 3 months 3,000 miles. Button 09-14-2002, 11:13 PM Glockperfection: It depends if you use non-synthetics or synthetics. In my opinion, I believe that the 3 K interval is too soon!!! Personally I use Amsoil &follow their oil change intervals. Regards, ~Button cptplt 09-15-2002, 01:04 AM most cars which have an oil change indicator usually don't indicate a change is necessary till way past 3K! Many Mercs don't ever light up till 10K with "normal" driving. In most markets outside N America, the low 3K interval is almost unheard of. shogunate83 09-15-2002, 01:30 AM I change my oil every 3,000 with mobil 1... Most people change it around 3000 Davenow 09-15-2002, 01:53 PM The 3000 mile standard is something they came up with in the 50's because engines were MUCH looser and MUCH harder on the oil. ALSO the oil was not nearly as advanced(lubrication additives/detergents) as it is now. 3000 miles is MUCH too soon with todays engines and todays oils. If you are THAT paranoid, then cahnge it every 5000.(non synthetic) or every 7000 synthetic. Heck, REDLINE recommends changing their oil every 15000!!! They are an OIL company it would be in their best interest to say change it more often, but its just not necessary. munkis 09-15-2002, 02:51 PM lets face it these cars are not driven lightly...I still say every 3,000, RS interval is recomeded every 3750...wich is dumb. Each car manufacture is different. Lincoln Maintnence is now ever 5k..most take semi synthetic 5w20. Jaguars are every 10k, with base oil. I change mine every 3k with mobil 1. Jay McDade Lincoln/Mercury/Jaguar Tech Mike Wevrick 09-16-2002, 04:19 PM 7500 is based on "normal" driving. For "severe" driving 3750 is recommended, where "severe" includes repeated short distance driving, extensive idling, and driving in high and low temperatures, or dust. For many people "severe" driving is really normal and 3000 is a reasonable interval. |
