Just curious, are these any brighter then the stock headlights?

Would anyone happened to have a pic of the conversion with eye lids? Tia!

tokigi...have you tried these HDs yet? i have the same exact headlights and when turned on, the dash console reads as hi-beams. it will switch between hi and lo....but on the dash it will read as hi-beams. the low-beams are pretty weak too.

do these HDs have the same problem?

I'm interested, but have some questions:

1. Any news yet on whether the brightness is equal to or greater/lesser than the brightness of the stock bulbs?

2. Any information back from the manufacturer regarding the problem Bunot addressed about the hi-beam light always being on?

3. You say the order will be placed after October 10th; when do you anticpate people will begin receiving their orders?

4. Is there a product warranty? If so, can you provide details?

5. And finally, can you confirm about use with HID bulbs?

Thanks,
David

So far I've only gotten one order on these.

I should have answers to all the questions by tomorrow, sorry its been taking so long.

Also, some more pics are on the way.

I'm going to extend this buy until the 15th due to the fact that it's taken a while to answer all the questions and get more pics.

tokigiracing

Here are some answers from the supplier:

- These lights are brighter than stock.

- There is only a problem with the high beam indicator if they are wired incorrectly.

- Warrantied from manufacture defects, but if they crack from being hit by a rock, warranty is void.

- Can use HID.

More pics coming today.

Ya, I'm suprised they aren't selling more...I do think the GB Forum gets alot less traffic than the regular For Sale Forum.

They are stocked with the US supplier. From the time I place the order, I should have them within 3 - 4 days and then ship to you.

Hell......just go to E-bay and do a seach for "WRX headlights"........

(I only point this out in this thread because the sale is closed and there are still other members looking for a good deal on these lights.)

TurismoLou

I am not too happy with these lights.
I mean, I know they were cheap but I expected them to work at least half way good. The high beams work great, but I can't see anything on the road with the low beams. The high beam indicator is always on and the fog lights don't even work now.

civ11c
11-08-2002, 12:48 AM
Unfortunately I went thru the same problems when I got similar lights for my Honda Civic. Ever since this experience I've always searched high and low for better quality items but at a decent price. The way I see it, if the thing is too expensive, the enjoyment of owning such a thing would be lessened:mad:

bunot

i warned you guys. nobody listened. TurismoLou, i suggest returning the product if you're unhappy about it. or, do the fog light mod to get your fogs to work even with the hi beams.

Sometimes a product that ppl really want, like putting on better looking headlights, combined with a really cheap price, becomes difficult to resist. I know I made the mistake, and now I am more aware of the quality and functional qualities or products I buy. That being said, there ARE stuff that are good AND cheap...in which case, we should jump at it!

anybody else unhappy with these headlights? are they all giving the hi-beam indicator light?

jason

amelnikov
11-16-2002, 04:41 PM
Though I got these off e-bay, the problem is still the same:
wrong wiring! After a little analyzing, I revired these and now the low and high beams work separately from each other, no more high beam indicator on all the time and my fog lights work too. I also put 70 watt H7 balbs in there and the output is almost hid like in brighness. The only thing that I don't like is that I can't seem to get the beam low enough, to not blind oncoming traffic. Though that may be because I have Whitelines superlow's and AGX's on my WRX causing the rear to sit slighly lower then the front.

Alex...

bunot

Ok, I'll try to be as clear as possible, so stay with me here. It may sound complicated, but only took me 15 minutes to do.
I'm going to skip wiring the turn signals, I'm sure most of you can figure out those 3 wires out. I'll cut to the chase.:D
First the center electrode on the factory headlight balb is not gournd like on american cars, but indeed hot wire that's always on and only the side ones are switched for high and low beam and those are grounds. Remember, this is important!
Now if you look at the new headlights you will see where that adapter harness attaches. You will notice that on each side there is a pair of black wires that are paired together. THAT WRONG! You will need to make sure that you put the correct pair of wires together. Whoever made those lights wired the like they were going on american car ( where the hot side is switched, not ground). At this point you need to deside if you want to keep those factory style plugs for 9007 that always melt or just get rid of them. I got rid of them and have not had any more meltdowns from the higher wattage balbs. Now pop the terminals out of the square plug that came with the new headlights. Next step is to carefully plan the next step. You need to take the terminal that has the pair of wires goes to the hot side of the factory harness and then figure out ( by turning lights on) which of the other 2 wires is low and which one is high beam and plug those terminals in the corresponding hole. Repeat for the other side.
Now you need to aim the headlights via those wingnuts and you are DONE!
I know this sounds complicated, but trust me it's not that bad at all. Just make sure you have a multimeter, wire cutters, electrical tape and a little patience.

Alex...

I had the same problem with mine but was able to solve it by simply swapping two of the connectors on one side of the plug-and-play harness. I wish I had more details but I've since sold them. Once the wiring is correct you'll have MUCH brighter low-beams and the highbeam lamp will be off when it's supposed to be. If you think these are tough try the Morettes...

sct
11-20-2002, 12:38 PM
After reading Alex's description and firing up my multi-meter I was able to rewire these lights correctly and get them working as they should. The light is much better than stock- but the adjustments and mounting have much to be desired.

How did people connect the bolt on the top of the lights to the car? The stock lights have the nut integrated into the housing but these only have a flange for the bolt to pass through.

Here are a few pics of the harness:
Original Harness (http://www.acm.vt.edu/~stevet/pics/car/original.jpg) - The red wire in the middle is the hot wire, the other two are grounds.
Rewired Harness (http://www.acm.vt.edu/~stevet/pics/car/rewired.jpg) - Note that the red wire in the middle is the one split now.
Connected (http://www.acm.vt.edu/~stevet/pics/car/connected.jpg) - The is the drivers side headlight. Note the red/split wire goes to the top plug on each light, the other wire determines if it is high or low beam.

I hope these pictures help someone, thanks for the pointer Alex- don't think I could have guessed the wiring on these without it.

i will try this tonight....looks good. now how many lights are turned on when you have low beams? how many are turned on when you have high beams?

i want to have all four turn on whether during hi or lo beams. as of now, mine is turned on 4 at lo beams and 2 at hi beams.

For me, the inside lights come on for low beam and the outside for high beam.

Thinking about the wiring, I am not sure it could be done easily.... but I am not an eletrical engineer. :)

Let me know how the physical install goes. I am still trying to figure out how to attach the top of the lights to the metal flange on the inside fender. I may have to track down a correctly threaded bolt and use some thread lock.

man what a nightmare. I bought these on ebay for 119.99 shipped. I had to re-wire all tree wires. They must have changed the way they manufactured these cuz the pics that the guy posted didn't look exactly the same as how my wiring was. Regardless I finally have 2-inside lights when low beams are on. and all 4 lights when highbeams are on. But putting high beams on really doesn't make it much brighter. The 2 lights for low beams are brighter than the stock low beams.

i too boght these lights as a cheap replacement for the uk300 lights. after alot of frustration i found pictures of how it's supposed to be wired from sct. the wireing didn't look exactly like mine did but with the picture i was able to cut out most of the crap extra wireing that came with it which was wrong. now i got bright low beams on the outside and brighter high beams on the inside ones. and ofcourse my fog lights work too because my high beam light is not on when it's not supposed to be. thax for the help guys
