So I was coming home from Nashville (will post story in OT) and I got a speeding ticket in Metropolis from an Illinois state trooper. He was very cool...professional and courteous...even when I was going 93 in a 65. (Its not as fast as it sounds.... flat, straight roads, cornfields etc. The few cars on the road were going about 85)
Anyway, my question is: I have the option of traffic school to keep this off my record. I can't find out what exactly this school is or how long it lasts...anyone have experiance with it? a "friend" went perhaps? Also: Is Collinsville pretty close to STL? I think its east saint louis....am I mistaken?

I just took the "Driver Safety Program" less than two weeks ago. I think you get 90 days supervision after the course but Im not sure about that. The class itself is suppose to last four hours but mine only lasted like three. It really wasnt that bad....got a break every hour and basically just watched a few cheesy movies. I think you save $30 by taking the class and it stays off your record. Personally I thought it was worth it to keep my insurance from going up and going to court which will take a couple hours outta your day.

cool, thanks! I too am only taking it to keep the insurance down (allready paying $350 a month :eek: with a clean record!)
I like cheesy movie. I actually have to pay an extra $25 to do the class route. (The ticket is $95). $120 isn't fun to pay, but its really not all that bad. I totally deserved it too.... Going 90-95 for two hours straight [smacks forhead] what was I thinking! (oh yea..."get home")

Take the class and be done with it. I got ticketed two years ago and the cop lowered my reported speed (so he said) so I could take the class. 90 day supervision had me on eggshells for a while, but that was when my commute was a stop and go affair from downtown to Northbrook.

Read the latest rant in SCC and realize, unless you get a lawyer for free (or don't disclose the costs, like the article did), you're going to spend more fighting a ticket than paying X amount and waking up early one Saturday for the class.

Yotsuya: The supervision is no big deal for....I live in MO and rarely, if ever, drive in other states. The cop didn't lower my speed, but it wouldn't have mattered. I was only going 2mph slower than the next "level" ticket so he would have had to knock off alot of speed. :lol: I just re-read the ticket and noticed I got busted by LIDAR. I suppose thats why my radar didn't work all that well. (read: didn't go off at all)

well if you are over 21 and have no tickets in illinois within the past year i think it is you have the option of taking the 4 hour traffic school online. but since you aren't a Illinois Resident i'm not sure how that works. i'd call the secretary of state and found out how that works.
