View Full Version : I wanna' go play in the dirt! Red-Imp 10-21-2000, 01:38 PM http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/mad.gifGrrrrrrrr!!!!!!! http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/mad.gif Damn it. kastle 10-21-2000, 02:38 PM Why don't you go out to the desert? Red-Imp 10-21-2000, 06:40 PM Woooo... Hooo.... I went out and played in the rain instead. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/biggrin.gif People in other states don't realize that it's a state holiday whenever it rains in Arizona. -Red PS: OK. So, by my definition below, I didn't really play. I just drove around looking for possible rallycross sites. Hey Bill, There's a lot of open desert and farmland out East in Gilbert. There's got to be a place for a rally-X out here somewhere. I talked to a couple of guys on quads who said there's a track where people run motocross out here some where. It got dark before I found it, but I'll keep looking. Now, I really prefer to restrict that type of activity to SCCA sanctioned (read INSURED) events. In order to really play - by that I mean drive the car flat, out as hard as I can - I really need to have it be on a closed track with a reasonable amount of insurance and trained assistance. I used to know a woman whose husband got killed playing in the desert on his dirt bike. Very bad scene. I'm not against taking a few risks. I just prefer to be properly prepared for them. Of course, I also hate waiting for next year before playing in the dirt. ....errrrr..... http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/wink.gif -Red #522 10-23-2000, 01:07 PM Speaking of deserts, does any of you know of some good ones? I live in central Phx, and I don't wish to go to Gilbert, but north Phx is OK. I'm looking for a good, windy dirt road especially. A friend of mine says there's a good road by Bartlett. Just curious. Bill.B 10-23-2000, 01:32 PM all I'm gonna say is be carefull, and follow the speed limit unless the road is fully closed on both ends with radio controll. I'll have a rallyx soon enough if you want to make sure it's legal... Puregraphic 10-23-2000, 01:37 PM If you go up Camelback or Glendale(can't remember which) to like 114 Avenue, there's a dry riverbed. Its very wide and mostly smooth, although there are a few places where people have built motorcycle tracks and such with hills and jumps and things that you really wouldn't want to take your car over, or at least shouldn't even though it would be great fun. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smile.gif Anyway, its pretty popular on the weekends - hundreds out there, so it would probably be better to go on a weekday. There is a benefit of all of the people going there though. The dirt is very smooth and worn. Puregraphic 10-23-2000, 01:40 PM I went to Flagstaff last night to play in the snow http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/biggrin.gif Great fun! Saw lots of Subarus! Then I went to a movie and drove back home. The perfect day. kastle 10-23-2000, 04:29 PM How did your scooby like the snow? philrb 10-23-2000, 07:04 PM I think the riverbed site at 114th ave has been shut down due to underage drinking, dope, guns, fights. Red-Imp 10-23-2000, 07:34 PM underage drinking, dope, guns, fights Woo... Hoo...!!! Add a little prostitution and that sounds like a heck of a party. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/biggrin.gif http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/biggrin.gif http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/biggrin.gif -Red Puregraphic 10-23-2000, 10:14 PM The car loved the snow. Its the first time its been in weather below 70 degrees. The snow was really sludgy, so my car is really muddy. Its also the first time I've gotten to slide at all(in a large, empty parking lot on top of Snow Bowl). Too bad that the riverbed got closed, I've been there a few times, although with a motorcycle and not my impreza, and its a lot of fun. philrb 10-24-2000, 06:38 AM Add a little prostitution and that sounds like a heck of a party. Yeah.....the guns are what ruined everything. [This message has been edited by philrb (edited October 24, 2000).] |
