View Full Version : online places to get racks? RidinLow 04-23-2001, 06:08 PM Hi, can anybody recommend any cheap & reliable sources to get Thule or Yakima racks on the web? TIA KeithRS 04-23-2001, 06:20 PM I actually haven't much online except for strap on trunk mount racks (although that doesn't mean there isn't anything). What you might want to do is get a list of the parts you need and call around to a few bike shops to see what their prices are and if they ship. I'm not sure if there is some kind of retail price controlling by the manufacturer, but I get the feeling that you win't find too many deals... Keith 04-23-2001, 06:22 PM look at this guy trying to steal my name!! http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif heehhee have u tried www.hooters.com? (http://www.hooters.com?) Sorry, I am dying herehttp://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif (on dubs) keith SkToBe 04-23-2001, 06:34 PM Yak and Thule do not discount their stuff very often. Very difficult to find on sale, but check out rei.com They carry both. Gummy Bear 04-23-2001, 06:50 PM I second the vote for REI.com... my Yakima came from there http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif Brian AIM: captaindamorgan ICQ: 84483950 http://ravensblade.cjb.net NASIOC: Now with 20% more caffeine! Fritz 04-23-2001, 06:55 PM Try rackwarehouse.com Don't know how competitive theri prices are though... nuburu2 04-23-2001, 06:59 PM These folks carry about everything worth looking at. Prices? It's been said. http://www.gearonthego.com/index.html Glenn O Big Tee 04-24-2001, 12:00 AM Hey Garrick, how're ya doing? Racks for the new wagon? You're sounding very domesticated! klind 04-24-2001, 12:04 AM Another online place besides REI that I have used is http://www.rackzone.com http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif [This message has been edited by klind (edited April 23, 2001).] RidinLow 04-24-2001, 08:05 AM Yep Tony, married life will do that to ya http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/tongue.gif. Get your RS fixed yet? http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif Thanks for all the sites everybody! Keith 04-24-2001, 08:32 AM np, I am sure my site help out a lot http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif Keith (ahh come on, give me some attention..look at me!! BAhhh..I hate workhttp://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif ) btw, bike racks....yeps, their ricehttp://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif Keith [This message has been edited by Keith (edited April 24, 2001).] cd3575 04-24-2001, 09:08 AM try performancebicycles, or may be performancebike.com they have and in house brand thule and yakima WagonMonster 04-24-2001, 10:08 AM REI.com (http://www.rei.com) definitely has my vote. I've been shopping at their stores for 25 years! Yakima and Thule hold pretty tight control over their prices, so I doubt you're going to get a discount. But I think REI puts Yakima on sale ONCE a year. So if you can wait... Matt 04-24-2001, 06:04 PM I'd recommend www.rackwarehouse.com (http://www.rackwarehouse.com) . I bought my footpack and fitkit from them. Good price and terrific service. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif litespeed 04-24-2001, 06:11 PM You might want to try www.coloradocyclist.com (http://www.coloradocyclist.com) to. They have all the cool cycling accessories and carry Yakima. Expensive stuff (I know after spending a bundle on it over the years). Might want to check local bike shops and big box sporting goods stores since they sometimes discount racks that are a model year old. KeithRS 04-24-2001, 06:27 PM Humph- I didn't think I could get them online. Maybe I will get around to replacing the crummy Saris stuff with Thule one of these days. -Keith Keith: nice namehttp://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif Keith 04-24-2001, 06:36 PM Thanks, I just got it 22 years agohttp://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif Keith Big Tee 04-24-2001, 10:58 PM Sorry to say, Garrick, the RS is still belly-up I hope to have it rolling again soon though. I got a hoot out of the bling-bling photo of 'you and Keith'in another thread. RidinLow 04-24-2001, 11:04 PM Yeah, we sometimes look really different in photos for some reason. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif Are you getting a new motor for the RS? Looks like I've decided to get 2 Steelheads and a Doublecross set from rackwarehouse. There are a few places online that are a few dollars cheaper, but their websites look kinda scary! http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif Thanks for everybody's help, ~G Strepto 04-24-2001, 11:08 PM Keith, I found you link quite entertaining http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif Big Tee 04-25-2001, 12:37 AM It looks like I'm going with a new shortblock and just reusing the intakes heads etc. If this hadn't happened, I probably would've gotten a new WRX, but now I cant justify both expenses. RidinLow 04-25-2001, 12:39 AM http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/frown.gif, well, good luck... hopefully you'll be back on the road sometime soon! I'd hate to be without my Subie for months. First autox of the season here is at Montour Falls this coming Sunday, but I don't suppose you'll have the car fixed in time. sybir 04-25-2001, 09:11 AM http://www.sportsrack.com Texas25RS 04-25-2001, 09:30 AM Yakima, from what I have seen, does not discount their racks to anyone... the prices that were charged at my local bike store, local climbing store and REI.com were all the EXACT same. REI does allow you to become a member and get money back at the end of the year though... All in all I spent: $40 for two sets of Q-clips $100 for a set (4) QTR towers $40 for cross bars $100 for a lockable full length tray I had the trays and the fron wind fairing from an older car... but the prices are about the same everywhere... I had a difficult time getting the rack to fit my car and without CAREFUL planning, the sunroof cannot be opened with it on. hotsam 04-25-2001, 09:34 AM You could get a nice imported rack from www.russianwife.com (http://www.russianwife.com) Mack 04-25-2001, 10:04 AM I ordered from here a couple of years ago. http://www.ageebike.com snakedriver 05-06-2004, 04:43 PM I did a lot of searching around for bike racks. I was going to buy a yakima system but when the bike racks (http://www.orsracksdirect.com/) section of this site suggested the Rocky mounts carriers as an alternative. WOW!!! what a difference in price. I've been using the same rocky mounts for three years and they are still super solid. Do your self a favor, go with a yakima or thule base rack but go with the rocky mounts to save a wad of dough!!! Julian 05-06-2004, 08:03 PM Or buy used. I've got one for sale. Scooby South 05-07-2004, 07:25 AM   wow..talk about reviving the dead.....Oldest thread EVAR reivived....:) Bill quentinberg007 05-07-2004, 02:26 PM I priced a Thule rack for my RS. $350 :( I think I'd rather just trade my impreza L for an L wagon. ~~Quentin |
