View Full Version : Turbo Timer Flaw revealed?

I hooked up my HKS TT. I used the harness, and spliced into the ECU, and e-brake sensor. I also cut the two wires for the security package that allow the keyless entry to work, and the alarm to arm. I tested everything and it all works perfect with ONE FLAW:eek:

Have you ever left your keyless remote in the car, and had to use your key to unlock the door. If so you know you jump in the car and turn the key 3 times fore and aft as fast as you can to stop the embarassment of your horn honking.

Well with the TT installed, and the two wires snipped the key no longer deactivates the alarm. But you can just push the remote button and turn it off. No big deal if you're not a bonehead and always take you alarm with you right??

BUT WHAT IF... you set your alarm, go to work and come out ready to go home, and find your remote battey has died. (its gonna happen eventually) Now you're in the parking lot, horn honking, car disabled from theft:rolleyes: and you can't get home:mad:

I know someone who reads this is smart enough to come up with a solution.

This is inevitable people, that battery will die sometime. Just a matter of how bad of a situation we wind up in when it does.

i hooked up a relay to mine to keep the gray wires together when the car is off. i'll test this out and see if mine does the same thing or not.

just tested it, mine does the same thing. probably related to cutting the keyless wire (green/black), and has nothing to do with the gray wire

Obviously, you keep a fresh replacement battery for the remote, along with a tiny Philips-head screwdriver, in your glove compartment.

vewy interesting (as the little yellow bird would say)

I agree with Jon in CT -- battery + screwdriver :)

Or you can run to the nearest store and buy them.

do you ever leave your remote in your car? like when you go on a bike ride or something and you just take the key and not the remote?

yeah, that could suck.

splice 12V from your fuse box into a little disc shaped thing that can snap right into your remote. that way you wouldn't need a spare battery (that could be dead too), but you would ned a screwdriver still.

Seriously, when I am sitting at work, or wherever this may happen, I do not want to try and set the world record for changing my remote battery. So is there a technical way to fix this, wires, bypasses, anything. Yeah a new battery gets you home, but it doesn't FIX the problem.

second problem is that everytime you cycle to on, the turbotimer starts a new count down, so it doesn't shut the ignition power.....therefore the 3 key thing can't work unless the turbo timer is shut off while the car is on.....sooo just if you are wiring a relay for the security, etc, then make sure you shut off the timer first......hehe

there should be a little black button on right under the dash by your left leg, a little to the right of the hood release, you push that button in and turn the key and it will kill the alarm.

Holy old-thread bump-
That button only exists on the GC factory alarm setup, not there on the 02+.
Once the wire is cut to allow the alarm to arm with the TT counting down, the system is no longer aware that the key is in the ignition. IMO another reason not to bother installing a TT which you don't need anyway. ;)

Wow - this post was written on the back of a shovel with coal!

I have had my TT for over 3 years now, haven't changed remote key batteries yet (though thinking I probably should...) and I've never run into this problem. I don't, however, have any cut wires, so I'm a little luckier- I can just turn off my TT by hand every time it starts counting down.
