View Full Version : Anyone need a new battery?

Then here it is!!!

The ultra lightweight battery that you all have been waiting for.

Battery weighs in at an even 15lbs which is 16+lbs lighter than the stock subaru battery. This thing is also very compact so for all the FMIC owners, you know you need the space.

It is also a dry cell battery so you can lay the battery on its side, standing up or upside down.

It doesn't matter!!

Also,For big audio guys,You can run 2 to 3 of these instead of capacitors and use the extra space for more speakers.:p

I put the 1st battery in my car before deciding to sell them to make sure they are up to par.And after 2 months and various little "tests" that I put it thru it passes.Definitly a upgrade from stock.

Similar batteries like the Dyna-Batt sell for over $120.00

Ninos~

So if I understand correctly this battery is "more powerful" than the stock one? Who makes this battery?

Thanks a lot
Evan

How many Cold Cranking Amps does it have?

NinosAutoAccesories
10-11-2002, 10:12 PM
Heres the specs.

680 cranking amps
28 minute reserve capacity with 25amp load
Dimensions: inches (mm)
width 3.11 (79)
length (terminal side) 7.27 (184.7)
height* 6.67 (169.4)
Weight 15 lbs / 7.0 kg

I cant say if its " more powerful" than the stock one for sure because I dont know the stock battery specs,But I would imagine that this battery is at very least a equal.

Looks like another rebadge of the Hawker Genesis / Odyssey PC 680. Check this link for technical info -> http://www.stealth316.com/2-dynabatt.htm
Good battery - I have one in my other car. But no were near the cold cranking amps of a big lead acid battery.

Might want to also read the yellow box at the bottom of the above link. It talks about rebadged Hawker batteries.
http://www.stealth316.com/2-dynabatt.htm#care

Not say this is the case with the battery Nino is selling. I just wanted to make people aware that it can be a problem if it turns out to be rebadged.

Yes,It may not have as much power as most full size batteries,But for people who need the space or want the reduced weight it is well worth it.

Will this cause my lights to dim? Right now I have a udp that causes the lights to dim *some*, would the lightweight battery make it do worse?

I seriously doubt it.

I have UDP's in my RS as well as HID's and my lights dont dim at all.Not even under heavy load such as if the A/C and stereo are on.

How well do you think the batteries will work during a Chicago winter? Temps can get as low as -40F.

Thats pretty harsh for any battery.

They should work fine,But of coarse as the temp drops the cranking amps do as well.

I cant say for sure because I dont have such extremes to test the battery under.

Ill be "testing" it out, it gets colder out here in the sticks of the burbs of chicago than it does in Chicago proper.

Do you have pictures of the black cased one?

Do you offer any kind of warranty or guarentee that those of us won't have problems in the snow belt when it gets cold and the wind chill starts to drop?

Thanks - Jon

Heres the pic.The only warrantee I can offer is that if the battery ceases to function,I will replace it.I cant guarantee the performance in certain weather becauise I haven't had ample time to do testing.

OK, I'll check at Pep Boys first.

I've already checked Discount Auto and the ones they sell have a different thread and larger connector.

If I have no luck, I'll Paypal you tonight. :) What would shipping cost?

Thanks,

Why are the connectors different on the black one?

Why is the top on the black on still orange and can the big white NINO's decal be removed? can all the NINO decals be removed? Kind of messes up the clean engine bay look.

Thanks - Jon

Why is the top on the black on still orange Its the same battery just that the case is black and metal.

and can the big white NINO's decal be removed? The one on the side of the black one can be removed.

call the NINO decals be removed? The one on top cannot,Otherwise the warranty is void.I wont have any way of knowing if its my battery otherwise.

I got my battery too. It looks great. I've got a dumb question: I can remove the terminals just by using a wrench to turn them right? I looked inside the terminals and saw slots for a hex wrench and wasn't sure whether to use a hex wrench or a vise-grip.

It seems the brass terminals can be removed using a vise-grip wrench. The hex wrench slots are for something else.

Why is everyone buying a new battery and they taking the terminals off?

Aren't these just plug and play/drop in?

Thanks - Jon

Other than the fact that you need to customize your mounts,These are plug and play.

There are 2 versions of battery.Obne that comes with tall brass terminals and one that comes with a screw to bolt the terminals from the car to.

Removing the terminals and using jusa a screw will give a cleaner connection with less resistance.Whether thats the reason people are doing it or not I dont know,But thats why I did it.:D

Not to hijack your thread, but I just got my Hawker battery delivered the other day. I found out that Hawker is close to Kansas City. I should have just driven down there.:) I could have asked the company dudes all these questions.:)

I ordered mine without posts, as my old DynaBatt already has them. It comes with two tiny bolts instead. IIRC they are stainless.

Oddly, the DynaBatt is soldiering on. I've used it for about a year and I thought that the summer heat zapped it. It started to give me trouble when the weather turned cold this fall. It gave me NO problems last winter, even with an inch of ice on the car and using GFB underdrive pulleys. I would fear heat more than cold with this battery. My battery is mounted under the passenger's seat, so it might get hotter sitting in the summer sun than one in the stock location.

If you are serious about weight reduction, get this battery. It removes a bunch of weight off of the nose. The battery can be mounted on its side in the stock location. This will keep it cool, make it easy to get to, save rewiring weight.

This comment sums up why I used this battery instead of a hawker or Dynabatt.

If you reasd the instructions for those 2 batteries they clearly state that they are not designed for high temp situations and that failure is possible.

This battery I am selling is designed for Classic hot rods,Collector cars and race applications. It is slightly heavier than the dynabatt and hawker genesis(same as dynabatt) due to some additional sheilding.

The other great thing about it that someone tipped me off to.

If you are really into weight reduction and weight transfer.

This battery will fit under the passenger seat in our cars.:D

It fits with room to spare.:) All you have to do is slide the seat forward and you can access most of it. I have a circuit breaker on mine so I don't have to touch the clamps. I just flip the little lever. When I had to jump start the car a few weeks ago I clamped the jumper cables to the seat mounting bolt.:) How many cars do that!

tip: If you poke along one of the ribs that is covered by tar there are 2 hole spaced just about right for the J-bolts to hold the battery down. Use the stock J-bolts, but cut and re-bend the bottoms.

How much are these shipped? I would be interested in getting one to go under my passenger seat.

FYI,
I bought one of these from Nino about 2 years ago and it worked great even during winter when my car was parked outside. However, this year (February 04), the battery was not able to crank the engine over. I had to swap in a Kirkland battery from Costco which was much heavier but did the job. I still think Nino's battery is a great mod for saving weight (I'm keeping mine for summer driving) but I would swap it out for winter driving if you live where subzero temps are common.
