Here's a satellite pic of ONE of my favorite roads to test and tool around on!

Although it flat, at speed it's very challenging due to deformations in the road that could cause you tires to skip http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/eek.gif if your bumpsteer isn't set up correctly.

It's the small road the follows along the west bank of the river. http://terraserver.homeadvisor.msn.com/printimage.asp?S=12&T=1&X=694&Y=6560&Z=10&W=0

to find a pic of your "secret" road click on the TerraServer link at the top of the page and find your state, then city, then area, ...

When I was working at my last job, I got to use the aerial photos all the time. Spotted some wicked looking ones. Gonna have to go see if I can find some of them one day.

Nice! We don't have anything like that here in Illinois. The best you get around here is the streets the wackos that designed subdivisions created.

Our old drag strip:
http://terraserver.homeadvisor.msn.com/image.asp?S=11&T=1&X=1525&Y=10183&Z=10&W=0

We would start in front of the small farmhouse in the lower right corner and run up the road from there. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif

Dolan Road, Moss Landing, CA

Was fun until the police came in and put up no parking 10:00 pm - 5:00 am signs...so nobody would want to park on the street anymore. Oh well

This is a very cool thread! I love STiShawn's satelite pic of Watkins Glen! It makes me very jealous! I'm in the opposite corner of the states, in southern California, so I should be responding with a sat pic of Riverside International Raceway, which also hosted the U.S. GP, but (sniff) it is no more. Got bulldozed and turned into another LA suburb. So here is my favorite twisty road which is just a quiet canyon road a few miles between my home and the late RIR. It is the light colored squiqly running E & W across the bottom. She's a nice California canyon road for 2nd through 4th gears in my WRX. http://terraserver.homeadvisor.msn.com/image.asp?S=13&T=1&X=338&Y=3365&Z=10&W=2

Kind of hard to see. It's the very thin line that more or less follows the coast.

http://207.46.235.30/image.asp?S=11&T=1&X=1585&Y=11607&Z=18&W=2

Who can identify it? It's pretty easy if you're from the northeast.

Isn't that a river(referring to original trhead)?

Reiflex
04-25-2001, 11:51 AM
The river is the thick dark line, the thin light line right along the right side of it is the 1 1/2 lane road .

Poseidon, I've been on that road once when I got lost going to Canada once. The most fun I ever had getting lost. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif Actually when back up it again for the fun of it.

This is some pretty damn cool stuff. I've seen aerial photos before, but didn't know where to find them. Just think for a minute the amount of data that is stored on a server somewhere for each of us to be able to call up his home/favorite road/whatever. Pretty amazing, this internet thing.

Adam - The "1 mi S of Lime Rock, CT" that comes up at the top of the image kinda gives it away. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif If you look real close, you can see the skid marks and furrows in the dirt to the inside of the turn in the lower left corner - that's where I totalled my car. OK, you can't really see it, since the picture was taken 9 years before I crashed there. Made you look! http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif

Now, it's time for my meaningless highlights. First, here's where I work - the Naval Submarine Base in Groton, CT. There's a big building smack dab in the middle of the picture - I work in the building with the 90deg angle that is just to the right of that center building. http://terraserver.homeadvisor.msn.com/image.asp?S=10&T=1&X=3717&Y=22932&Z=18&W=2 Note that it appears that all of the submarines were smudged out of the picture - you can clearly see two tugs on one of the southern piers (you may have to zoom out once or twice), but around all of the other piers the picture is blurry. Maybe it's just due to excessive glare from the white concrete piers.

Here's one of my favorite roads, Rte 234 near Mystic and Stonington, CT. It's the nice winding road running pretty much horizontally across the top of the image http://207.46.235.30/image.asp?S=13&T=1&X=159&Y=2865&Z=19&W=2 , crossing I-95 in the middle-right of the picture. I live just off the right of the picture, you can see the nice 180deg on-ramp I take every morning to I-95 on the very right edge of the picture.

I found a couple other good roads, but they're so hard to make out (everything runs through forest around here) there's not much point in posting the links.

maybe those subs have a top secret gizmo that creates some kind localized interference for satellite photography imaging. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/tongue.gif

and twisties I will go to when I have a car> As You can see I REALLY think ahead: http://terraserver.homeadvisor.msn.com/image.asp?S=12&T=1&X=600&Y=3991&Z=17&W=2
it is the road that comes off of the main road the then re attaches. Unfortunatly parts of it are covered by trees
It is almost as if the road's only purpose is to have curves. In deltona you don't have to go real far to find twisties but this road is not traveled to often and has no cops is paved nicely

If you ever get the chance, this may well be the best 80 miles in the US - no towns, 1 gas station, and sweeping turn after sweeping turn.
