Wondering if I can use the same wiring/tubing from the factory gauge to wire up a mechanical Omori boost gauge. Anybody do this?

you can use the same vacuum line i'm pretty sure as long as the omori uses a restrictor too, but the power harness will probably not work because the plug for the oem will most likely be different than the plug in the back of the new omori.

i figured as much with the plug/harness. i am hoping to cut and splice.

cutting and splicing will work, but you might want to just run new wire so you can sell your old boost gauge. the vacuum wire you can just substitute the stuff that the omori came with.

sell it? i wouldn't screw somebody like that. :) seriously, it does not read 0 when the engine is off. the install manual says that this can be expected due to differences in manifold pressure between cars. so that was my dealer's excuse for not replacing it. what a crock. my blitz dtt tells me that the OE gauge is off by as much as 0.2kPa during boost/idle.

I did this exact swap.

I used the stock vacuum hose, for mine the stock hose has the correct restrictor attached. For the wiring, I stripped the Omori side with about 1/4" of wire showing. I plugged them right into the stock plug and secured with electrical tape. No splicing required.

Oh, you are comparing the accuracy of your mechanical boost gauge versus your electrical blitz dtt gauge. Well you dtt gauge could be wrong also.

the blitz is in fact correct. with the stock boost controller in, the OE boost gauge tells me i am running about 11 psi while the blitz is spot on at 13.6.

anyone know how to get the factory boost gauge out of the rubber pocket w/o tearing it up?

If you just lift the lip of the pod around the edges, you can get a finger in and slowly pull it out. Just work it out bit by bit going around the face..

i plan to stick a narrow screw driver through the hole in the back and gently push the gauge through. the cup feels like butyl rubber so i don't think it would tear very easily.

I hunt "Phillywrx's" for a living

I ordered my gauges from kastleskorner.com -- should be here in a little bit. I too will let you guys know how the "swap" went.

Also, check this thread out if you haven't already done so!

What happens when you remove the boost gauge's restrictor and replace it with, say a 3/16" coupler?

In the great words of Ellen Feiss, "Enhhhh?"

Not exactly sure what you mean - if you mean the 3/16"s mod, then I would say you might be confused. It was my understanding that the 3/16th mod comes into play here:

I'm also pretty sure there is no reason to tap off of this thing for a boost gauge, but I could certainly be mistaken. Also, WebKris (on the forums) had tried all sorts of different configurations for the 3/16ths mod, so it IS possible he tried what you may be suggesting and came up with no benefit. (If THAT's what you are saying.)
