i want to get an old subie motor and rebuild it to be an all out monster, should i get an ej 20 and make it a 2.2 with a stroker kit and a turbo? or should i just get another ej 25 and install better internals and a turbo? what would make the most power, and hold up to daily driving better....also is there anything else i should consider before starting a project like this, for an ECU i htink ill use a tec 2 so i should be ok there but i know im overlooking something, thanks.

p.s. once thats done ill set up a tranny

p.s.s. i think the new site sucks, the old one is way better

Hello,

That's a super-loaded question. Everyone has an opinion on EJ20 v. EJ25. I'm of the opinion that the EJ25 is much better if you're going to tear down the internals...

Shiv has been finding, with his TEC-II tuning, that he can run as much advance on his 10:1 '00 2.5 motor running 11 pounds of boost as an 8:1 '02 2.0 motor runs at 14 pounds of boost. That's crazy. The EJ25 seems to be FAR more detonation resistant. And the 9.7:1 motors are even more det. resistant than the 10:1 motors...

Damn, by the way, I like the new format, but I'm member #36. I remember this board being pretty small when I Alex finally convinced me to come over, but I didn't realize how much it grew... 7200 members now...

Joel, old fart.

the new format is too tedious(sp?) it takes too long to do simple things like log on, i like the old way much better, BTW if i was going for a ej 25 i would only get a MY99 ej25 so if that helps anyone help me, thanks! i want to make an 11 second street legal subie

If I was you I'd go woth the Ej25. Forged rods, Knife edged and micropolish'd crank, 8lb. flywheel, Arias 12:1 pistons 40 over, sleeved cylinders, and Cobb Heads. That would be an 8Krpm NA monster. You'd probably be at 2.6L that way.
