There's this whole appplication process. As far as techincals, your room needs to be at least a certain size, your neighbor needs to live within a certain distance, etc... But we also interviewed over the phone with a couple people (just asked us our tastes, how well we knew our friends, how "into" the whole thing you are) as well as someone came to our house and took digi pics and video of the room and the whole house/lot. I don't know what makes the final decision, though. I mean, it's not like they only put on pretty or thin people and sometimes people are downright "could care less" about it, so who knows.

Personally, I'd rather have the female who does the carpentry work... I'm not sure if she's still on the show or not. But think of it this way; good looking, smart and can help me build a set of shelves instead of get in the way. Mmmmmm... perfect....

Paige Davis isn't that bad either, though she has to have her down days, in order to stay that happy and perky.

Nobody on TV, looks better in jeans than Paige Davis. EVER!!

Doug is one of my favorites because he tries to give people something different than they have. I'm sure he plays it up for the show, but he seems to also get a lot of people who don't want to try something different or new. Like the fireplace fiasco (true fans will remember that infuriating-to-watch episode).

I'll give ya' body but accent sounds more like mouthful of marbles to me.

Ah, yes, the ol' "Crying Pam" episode. Sorry, but that room didn't deserve full-blown sobbing tears. Still not sure what her deal was. Frankly, I think MY neighbors had more of a reason to cry.....

I must agree that the crying fireplace lady went overboard on her reaction. In her defense, she probably shouldn't have done the show, because she was going through a family drama at the time of the filming. THere's a long explanation from her somewhere out there (I think I read it on the Trading Spaces message board). I too like Doug because he's different, but since my g/f won't even let me paint a wall anything but white, I doubt that we're the kind of people they are looking for.
Plus, there was a bit of negative publicity a few months back that made it sound like you would be crazy to let these people near your house...nothing was done well, just done to look good on camera, etc...
Obviously I don't know if that's true, but my g/f now says no way, when for a while she was digging up the application online. We pretty much hate most of our neighbors anyway...

it's true that they do a lot of things the "wrong" way. some things of note are painting linoleum floors (that'll look like crap shortly), painting over wallpaper (that'll be impossible to ever take down), and pretty much anything they decide to paint over.

a lot of the ideas are good, but would need more than 48 hrs to be done properly.

MMMMMMMMMMMMM Amy Wynn's cans.

I'd take Alex as a woman (and a hostess) over Paige, but you can't argue with Paige's other...um, qualities. Alex seemed to work better on the show, and better interaction with the designers and owners.

Ty is funnier than Amy Wynn, but you can't argue with Amy's other...um, qualities.

Damn, it always comes down to that.

Now, if only the film crews wouldn't be to tight with the frames...lots of opportunities for really good viewing are killed by too much zoom, or cutting away at the wrong time...

I like that damn show for no other reasons than Paige and Amy Wynn.

And, if they do stuff wrong on the show, it has to be expected. $1000 and two days? It's not all going to be great.

And I hate the idiots that hate their rooms and want them like they had them. If you want it like it is, don't do the show. That episode with the fireplace was just on this weekend. Even Paige's smiling face can't make that any less annoying.

i love that show. i could care less about the rooms etc, although it is interesting to see what they do. but i love seeing paige, amy, and genevieve. if they are not in it, i wont watch it.

Everyone wears the same clothes both days, for continuity. They cut and edit the show, so you don't necessarily see what happened in the order it happened.

OK, here's the verdicts:

Amy Wynn - met her. As the pic just above shows, very high potential but IMO about a 7 on a daily basis

Paige - two words, yum and yum. Before I met her, I thought she'd be cute in a cheerleader, nice figure way. When I first saw her up close, I was :eek: :eek: ! Beautiful eyes, taller than you think (5'7", I think) - literally, I was taken aback when I saw her. She's that hot. She's trained as a dancer = yes, body is that good as well. Her TV persona is a little exaggerated - off-camera she is very cool.

Theresa Strosser (sp?) - no, i haven't met her but yuck.

Genevieve - haven't met her either, but, yah, yum!

What's up with Paige's hair? Sometimes it's too high up off her face and it shows off her big forehead too much. :lol:

Zebra room lasted about 4 days. Took them a small swimming pool worth of Kilz to cover it. OK, here's the scoop:

They DID like it at first, but practically speaking, it was horrible. The floor mat they Doug laid down was awful - you couldn't cut it easily so the fit stunk and it shed these little fibers everywhere, so it definitely had to go. Since my neighbor had to empty the room to reinstall the carpet (which, btw, was less than a year old when they pulled it up), he figured, wth, and repainted.

IMO, the flooring stunk, there were just too many godam plants and that room just wasn't big enough for that table. Take those three things out, and I think the room rocked. The lighting had to be addresses as well, because the three little lamps on the ceiling put out zero light, but that's easy. The finish on the furniture was awesome (although Doug only did two pieces, they would have had to do the same thing to their other dresser). The zebra stripes were, literally, a work of art. They looked so authentic and the final parchment-like finish was perfect. The bamboo ceiling - eh - take it or leave it. Bottom line, I think the spirit of the room should have been kept. It was definitely unique, tasteful (after some modification) and well done.
