Has anyone else noted that the cruise control doesn't seem to want to engage over 85 MPH?

You have to engage it below 85 and inch it up.

It is limited to 88 mph, and that is the ceiling. I think it is a DOT law, but I am not sure.

Actually the real reason it's limited to 88mph is because if you went any faster, you'd go back in time. ;)

all i know is that it is a good thing that it doesnt engage over 88. imagine all of the morons falling asleep at the wheel while cruising at a constant 120+mph..

I don't think it's a DOT issue since the one on my 2002 Corvette works fine, well above that range.

Although it could be an issue that the gas mileage drops off due to the drag. Actually my 405 HP Corvette get better mileage than my WRX on the road. The WRX is about as aerodynamic as a shoe box.

88 MPH was probably chosen with a dart board since they had to pick something.

it's a safely issue, and i think it's a law in america too. kind of sucks when you drive long distances in open areas. i'm sure there is a way to bypass this cutoff, but i haven't see it yet.

None of my previous cars have had this "feature", so I don't think it's a law (unless it's a brand new one).

It's pretty silly because you can set it at 85 and then use the cruise control to accelerate up to wherever you want to set it, so it's not like you can't do it.
