Extraze 11-29-2002, 08:15 AM I know the WRX STI 2004 will be equipped with a 6sp, but what about the 2004 WRX (NON STI)? thanks jimb 11-29-2002, 08:32 AM Looking at the situation from a marketing standpoint, it would be a smarter move keeping the 5mt in the WRX and the 6mt in the STI. Why? They are two very different vehicles, one of which, carries a premium over the other. Overlap between the models can mean disaster for the STI. So.. In short.. no, because if you want the nice toys, you've got to pay, and by paying more, it makes those toys all the more special... jb Extraze 11-29-2002, 09:57 AM I agree with you, but from a customer satisfactions perspective, the 6sp MT, would probably boost WRX sales and comfort the many potential customers, and show them that Subaru has taken care of the many transmission problems (because alot of people know that subaru's weakpoint is the transmission (the WRX's anyways)). i personally would keep the 5mt in the RS, and put the 6sp in WRX and STI... maybe i should do a poll about WRX vs RS transmission problems i might be dreaming in color. but this is what i hope subaru will do. Albert 11-29-2002, 03:33 PM Wow, I pretty much just said the same thing in another post. Here: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=281925 robmarch 11-29-2002, 05:22 PM If they find a way to make more of them efficiently, this would be a good plan. Otherwise, I would think the number of 6-speeds available would limit the number of STis or 6-speed WRX's. dwx 11-30-2002, 12:15 AM I'll say it right now, you'll never see a 6MT in a WRX other than the STi. reks 11-30-2002, 01:16 AM I'm not sure. Everybody has a 240+hp engine these days. Everybody also offers a 6spd. While I'm inclined to think that the 6MT is going to be an STi only thing, offering it as an expensive option still makes subaru a lot of money. Besides, subaru doesn't really need to sell the STi. They have enough kids crashing WRXs as it is. joefocker20 11-30-2002, 01:59 AM I heard a rumor that most people that buy wrxs jumped on the bandwagon from civics. Kostamojen 11-30-2002, 03:04 AM Originally posted by joefocker20 I heard a rumor that most people that buy wrxs jumped on the bandwagon from civics.  I thought it was because of Gran Turismo :p firedog25 11-30-2002, 02:02 PM Doesn't the STi also have the variable center diff? I think (WISH) that they would make the 6mt an option on the standard WRX minus the variable center diff. I can wish, can't I? imprezawrxsti.com 11-30-2002, 06:28 PM The 6 speed FOR NOW is only a STi item. Not even in the new JDM WRX do they have it. :( Hopefully they will think about it... The variable center diff you are reffering to is the DCCD (Drivers Controlled Center Diff), and it for now is only a JDM STi piece. The UK isn't getting it in thier STi, and I have it on good information that we won't either. :( Doesn't mean you can't upgrade, though, if you have the $$.. JJ www.imprezawrxsti.com/phpBB2 All STi, All The Time Albert 11-30-2002, 07:01 PM Originally posted by dwx I'll say it right now, you'll never see a 6MT in a WRX other than the STi. ...never, why? I can't foreseen any reason an optional 6 speed can't be an industry norm in ~3 years, and could actually increase highway mileage if 6th is geared correctly. Now in Subaru's case >immediate< action is required in North America; choices are either: - a redesigned, [strengthened], smoother, 5 speed [= more R&D $$]. - increase assembly capacity of the 6 speed for our WRX and turbo Forester. And don't forget the Legacy GT. IMO the current 5 speed can remain as is [saving $$$], with minor improvements tweeks over let's say next 3-5 years should keep it relaible if not mated to any engines exceeding 210hp. ** My reference yesterday to a manual-matic as the ONLY other WRX transmission might have been pushing it, but I still would love to see a [entry-level] manual-matic in both the WRX and Forester - save the steering wheel paddle shifter for the Legacy, and the rumored [SVX] coupe. ** Dreams of WRX packages, base not to exceed $27k? Sports (base): Euro sports seats, 6 speed, suspension/brake upgrade, 17" wheels. -----optional moonroof, nav, manual-matic, spoiler, (only by customer order 6-8 weeks?) Touring (base): Current seats w/leather, moonroof, manual-matic, interior trim kit. -----optional 6speed, nav, 17" wheels, spoiler, (only by customer order 6-8 weeks?) Make it happen SOA:D ... Hurrikain 11-30-2002, 09:11 PM jumped on the Bandwagon from the Civic crowd? well its true I spose, I did and another one of my friends did at the same time. I had a supercharged and nitroused 97 coupe(ran 12.90's on slicks) and he had a 98 hatch with a GSR. I sold my car for 14G and went WRX shopping, and why not? GT1-GT3 let me see the potential, I didnt have the cash to get an R32 and a bank wouldnt give me a loan on one. GSX? Played out to the extreme, Supra ? 30+ for a good one or a mostly shot (read high mileage) for 22 and up. I could go old skool but I old enuf that I want something new and not needing alot of bodywork. ONLY and IF ONLY I HAD waited I coulda got on the list for an STi and not have to be looking for an improved transaxle. Oh well theres always bonus time next year I guess. Peace Eby 12-01-2002, 02:19 PM Well that's what you get for being so quick to jump on the bandwagon. ;) Rev 12-02-2002, 04:28 PM I don't see why it is such a big deal to put the 6 speed on the current WRX. Toyota, Acura, Ford, and Nissan all seem to offer them on thier pocket rockets, so why is it that Subaru cannot get with the times? It is lack of vision on their part not offering it, and giving us a crap 5spd. scurry 12-02-2002, 07:10 PM I'm not sure how many of you remember when the 5 speed was like the 6 speed is today. Now saying that, I don't expect to see six speed trannys in the average commuter car any time soon, but I do expect to see them commonly in any and all performance cars. Today’s market is almost to the point to where it is expected, especially in the import scene. Take a look around, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, and even Hyundai already offer it. My guess is the WRX will see a basic six speed in a few years with an optional front LSD. This is strictly my opinion and nothing more. Shawn |
