I forgot where I saw it, but wasn't there talk about SOA marketing a lower trimline Baja with cloth seats and whatnot to get the price down. I find the cost somewhat prohibitive to making the Baja truly practical at the moment, and I'm sure others will agree. Getting a lower base price might encourage more enthusiast acceptance of the model as well as bring in more regular buyers. A price around the entry-level Outback would work. More power would probably help to justify the higher price as well. I find the situation similar with the Forester, but don't tell the Forester guys I said that. :D
Am I making sense? It's late...

Give me one with Vynal (sp?) seats, rubber floor covering instead of carpet, the H6, and dual range for the same price that it sells for now and I would probably go for it.

Well, the price won't be coming down because Subaru is putting either the H6 or Turbo'ed 2.5 into it next year
Sorry.

Local no-haggle dealers have them for $22k. That's before incentives kick in. For MY2002, that varied from $500 to $1200.
Then consider cloth will be offered soon. That's what they told SIA employees, and maybe as early as next month.
So prices could dip below the magical $20 grand mark early next year. For that price it's a deal. They could even delete the moonroof and cladding and cut prices further.

This was comment on another thread about this--And im sticking to it...
"I have to wonder where on this planet you guys buy cars...
One post mentioned for 10K less he could get a tacoma????
Add leather, pw, pdl, sunroof, cruise, cd player, 4x4, auto---Then see how much your Tacoma is.. Not to mention, it will probably also have to be a 2 door standard cab...
Remember, all of those above mentioned items are standard on the Baja.. Ours came with the bed extender and cargo net, still about 25k...."
No offense intended here.. I shopped for Tacoma's before I bought my WRX.. The Baja price, in general, is not bad.. Its average and reasonable.. I do admit, though, it needs more power.. We got the auto.. Its night and day from the manual.. The manual I test drove felt like a sewing machine, really sucked.. But the auto is real smooth and tolerable...
I've heard about the cloth interior too. Personally, I live in Florida and its just too hot for leather, especially black leather. And its not functional. I like the sunroof, its a little better than the t-tops of my Brat.
I'd love a Baja, but the pricing doesn't seem right. I can get a standard Outback cheaper, and current Bajas are at least the price of a WRX or more. :(
I agree with Pipercub...dual range tranny is something that I miss.Fortunately my RX and Brat still have 'em. :) But seriously, maybe some different gearing for the 2.5. H6 is good, but I'm a cheapskate and can't justify spending more than $25k on a vehicle. :)
