I heard this from a friend; not sure if this is true or not. He told me that last year on Christmas Eve night, a red RS was racing through the foggy night on Oak street bridge. The car was heading towards Richmond; when the car was at the end of the bridge, somehow lost control and smacked onto a side wall barrier and into a light post. The subie driver died on impact; and the light post was knocked off of its foundation. Can anyone tell me if they have of this or it was some other car?!

Yeah, I saw in the newspaper that a Subaru had crashed on Oak Street Bridge a while back. The driver died on impact. I'm not sure if it was an Impreza cause the car was really messed up.

Was it the Richond Review? Was there any other cars involved?

It was Richmond Review. I don't think there were any other cars involved.

It was a 98 RS. The accident happen on Christmas Day. It was very sad because her mom just arrived from HK and saw the car on the way home. There was no other car involved. The car was going too fast and the fog was too heavy. The car fliped and slided for 200m. My friend died at the scene. Please don't speed people.

Yep, X'mas of 99.
I am not sure if you talked to the same guy.
The car did have yellow mud flaps and fog lights.

I believe I've seen that car before. Did it have white rims? Anyway, that sucks. Don't speed guys.

Just goes to show how fragile life is eh? We may feel invincible in our AWD Subies, but we're only fooling ourselves. If we want to go fast or do racing, let's all make a gentleman's (or woman's) agreement and only race at a track/auto-x/strip/etc. where it's legal to do so. A 3000lbs car traveling at a high rate of speed can KILL you or someone else!

Let's minimize the risk (and drive responsibly), but maximize the enjoyment of our RS's!

LaterZ!
Darren!!

Hmm....a red 98 with yellow mudflaps? I think I've seen that RS too if it had white TE-37's. There's probably 2 main reasons why I don't do any performance mods that add more power to my car. I'd probably be tempted to use those mods to do something stupid like race in the streets risking my life and others. Another thing, I don't have enough money right now for those mods so I kind of guess it's a good thing. After driving a 127 hp civic before I got my RS, I am already happy with the power in my car. Who cares if Preludes or Integras are faster than me.....my car still looks way better http://208.9.184.110/NonCGI/smile.gif

Although I like modifying my car to go a little faster, I agree that racing should be done on a closed track. I'm still waiting for a full pulley set to be designed and built for the RS to give a little better acceleration. Than again, after seeing orbiter's crank pulley at our last meet, I am very tempted to get one!

The one with TE-37 is a diff. car.

The driver used to drive a 1.6 EL. But on that day he drove his brother's RS. I guess the car gave him too much confidence to speed. Sometime I think we are overdose with the believe that AWD can overcome any situation, but in real life, it's not!
Our cars do have great traction - the purpose is to make us safer, and it shouldn't be the other way around.
I agree with Darren, let us all make a commitment not to speed on the street. I don't want to lose any friend. http://208.9.184.110/NonCGI/wink.gif

I am a former owner of an imprezar(00'white 2.5 rs). My car was crashed beyond repair last month.(THe accident happen at the intersection of steveston and #2 rd(you can still see the "aftermath" there). My car was traveling on steveston and approached #2.The road was wet. I was going pretty fast so i didnt stop for the yellow light. Then, a car on #2 turned right into steveston and it was right into me. I braked and steered to avoid a crash but his car still hit the rear right side of my car. My car slided and went on the curb and into 2 trees. Both airbigs went off, the main frame was pushed off about 4 inches. Luckily, no one was hurt.)I acknowledged about the accident of the red imprezar when i talked to the owner of that car last month. I told him my story and he told me what happened to his brother. It is just terrible. In the same week, i heard 5 other imprezas crashed(Also, two devastating accidents happened in hk recently. One is legacy(1 dead) and the another one is impreza(2 deads and one of the 2 survivers lost a leg and the other had abt 40 stitch on her face), and both cars were shattered.WOO.. I think the AWD thing is making many ppl over-confident to their cars.
It is very dangerous to rely on the car too much. I really hope everyone will learn from these tragedies. The street is infact a very unpredictable place, and it is definitely more dangerous then any race track in the world.

Why not another subie? I know that vr6 is a nice car, my buddy has one; but didn't you like the subie?

well...i think the AWD really give ppl too much confident on their car...just think AWD can handle anything that may happen on the street...
yet...once they encounter the screen...not everyone can handle it and especially when they go fast w/ it!
the stock tires from the RS are just garbage...poor traction and ppl who wants to drive fast...pls consider some better tires rather than more power...so as the brake...get more braking power is more important buddies...life worths a lot more than u win some other car...

just found out that the person who drove that RS was 17 years old and attended Cambie Secondary in Richmond. The guy was a very funny and nice guy. If anyone wants to go fast a little, we should book a track and go down together have some fun. Some can race and some can watch. It would be neat to see a few subies do some slalom runs.

We have a saying down here... all wheel drive merely gets you to the scene of the accident. Use your heads, keep your wits about you and don't drive over your abilities. Always, always leave plenty of room for that safety margin.

Keep the rubber side down.

Regards,

Tim

Just out of experience, the AWD in our cars is great while moving, but when stopping we are just like everyone else, at the mercy of our brakes/tires. Once you get off the throttle, the awd becomes useless. Keep this in mind folks, Accidents happen all too often.
