On Christmas Day I had to go out and pick up my grilfriend from work. We got 5-6" of snow so I toke out the Subaru." I don't drive much in the winter" On the way home I stoped and the car started running funny and the check engine started blinking. Tonight was the first night I could look at it so I went for a short drive and I noticed that the car has no power like the timing is off.
My question is if the timing is off could that make the check engine light blink?
Thanks Dave

From what my manual says (for an 02wrx), a blinking CEL means that the car is in LimpMode, and could mean an possible misfire condition etc. among other things. This is from my manual though, yours blinking light might be different. Did you check your owners manual?
I also suggest taking it to a dealer or someone and having them pull the code for you.

Dave when you installed the link do you plug in the green check mode connector under the drivers side of the dash? It will be green connector with one wire going into it.If its plugged in un-plug it.

That usually means a misfire. Get it checked out.

I get an ocasional misfire code usually on hard 5th gear decelleration... I never go in limp mode though. My CEL is due to my Primitive lightened flywheel though. Don't know what you've done to your car.

My car(2000 rs) had a flashing CEL for about 5 minutes one time. I was on the highway and the car backfired, got crazy loud, lost power, and the EGTs(I have a guage for my future turbo) dropped WAAAY down(Usually, around 1300 for cruise, dropped to around 700, which is lke cold start idle!). I had to keep the pedal floored to stay above 50mph. I was already headed to the dealership because the CEL was already on. Of course, right when I turned into their parking lot, the CEL went off all together and everything was and has been happy ever since. They pulled the codes tho and got misfires on all cyls and a cat inefficiency code and something else minor. They were all stored, and nothing was current so I didn't have them do anything. If the problem comes back tho, I will. That was about a year ago. Take it to the dealer, they may not have to do anything, it might just scare your car straight like it did mine :-)

I just recently had this problem. Sounds like bad plug wires.
My #3 and #2 spark plug wires were toast. The OEM plug wires suck.
I've also replaced three of the four plug wires on my Wife's 2000 Legacy GT.
If you don't cure this problem, it could fry your coil.
My 2 cents.
Cheers,

The blinking CEL I think means a misfire. If you want to know what it is for sure I can run the code for you, or just go to autozone, and they will pull codes for free as well.
