Alright,

So about 1 1/2 years ago, here at my work, we have an annual Benefits Fair, from a bunch of companies-Cigna, MetLife, etc. . .)

So there as a thing for a free Auto Quote from Met Life.
at the time I was 24 driving a 1991 Toyota MR2 (non-turbo)

I got a quote from them about 6 months later and it was outragesly high.
Last week, I got another quote from them. I wish I had access to a scanner right now to show you the exact quote.

The first NON-preprinter thing on the page is:
"We've Lowered Our Rates"

Bodily Injury 100/300 $880
Property Damage 50000 $987
Medical 25000 $118
UMBI 100/300 $26
Coll Deductible 250 $2467
Comp Deduct. 100 $312
Substitute Tran $16
Total 6 month Premium: $4,806

That is MORE than the car is probably worth right now!
Are the F-ing crazy?!?!?!?

I pity the person that pays their car insurance rates. . .
I'd hate to get a quote on the WRX. . .6 month premium. . .$18,492

omg.... That is soooo dumB. Here at Harley, they have some "special group rate" thing setup for the employees here. I don't know anyone that works here that is on their plan, though. I guess that's probably why.

When I was 16 I was quoted $400/month on a brand new Porsche.

check your driving record, there might be something on there that shouldn't be. For example, my insurance seemed a bit high, had my background pulled, found out I had a 30+ over ticket that should have been dropped since I took a 8 hour traffic safety class. I'm taking care of that this week actually.

How do I get my Background record?

4K every 6 months 'eh.. that sounds vaguely similar to the lowest quote I could get on the impreza...

It certainly pays to shop around though, I got some quotes that were pushing 5K/6mo when i was shopping...

and always keep an eye on you record, i believe (at least here in MI) if you go to the secretary of states office you can get a copy of your driving record.

you can get your record from any Il Drivers Licence facility for a few dollars.
I still have one from about ten years ago that has a Operation of a motor vehicle on one wheel ticket on it :D

Damn, dood... I thought paying $255/mo ($1530/6 mo.) with Progressive was bad on my car! I got an OWI, two speeding tix, and Impeding Traffic on my record in the last 2 years. :( One of the speeding tix was in June down in IL in the WRX and the Impeding Traffic was in April or May last year, also in the WRX shortly after I picked her up. Whatchoo been doing to have rates that high?!?!

One of the two speeding tix should be off the record now, though, cuz it's over a year old and in my previous car (Olds Delta 88, not that the car I was driving is supposed to matter for the ticket...). The other speeding ticket was my first one in IL, and I heard someone say that in IL your first one doesn't go on your record. Not sure if that's true or not. The Impeding Traffic ticket was a B.S. ticket that was originally a B.S. speeding ticket that got changed in court. They told me that was they best they could offer me. Whatever. It's still better than a speeding ticket, I guess, though not by much. Oh, and I had one more speeding ticket that got thrown out in court. He didn't even ask me to plead my case. My grandfather used to be one of the Aldermen in the town where the county courthouse and I kinda wonder if that had anything to do with it. He still gets involved in some of the civil stuff that happens in town, so who knows...

Enough about me.... I have a couple of friends that have fairly pricey insurance too, though, they don't have the record I've got. My buddy with an '01 Cobra pays roughly $3000/year and one of my roommate's pays about the same with his '91 Stealth R/T twin-turbo. Both of them store their nice cars in winter too and drive other cars during the winter. It helps their rates a little to do that, but they do it mostly to save the cars and not so much their money.

I suppose it's not the best of times to mention that I pay around $80-90/month with (IIRC) 2 tickets and an accident on my record for the past 3 years, is it? On the plus side, the two tickets will be off my record in June... wonder what that'll bring my rate down to...

BTW, insurance in IL goes back 3 years in your driving history to base your rates.

Same in MI, 8

I dont quit pay 4K.. i'm 2800 and change every 6 months w/progressive that's after some pretty major discounds they gave me too... but I have 6 speeding tickets and 2 accidents on my record for the last three years *oops* almost all of which were in the impreza... so I don't blame anyone but myself

Question will your driving record have what you got ticketed for or what the judgement was? I've gotten a wreckless driver at a high rate of speed and fleeing an officier before, but got off with a minimum speeding ticket. My insurance was able to pull up the wreckless driving/fleeing info even after this happened well over ten years, I had to remind them of the actual ruling. They looked into it and dropped the $$'s.

Only what you have been convicted of will be on your record.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the accident I had right before X-mas in Dec. 2001. No tickets were issued for that. Only damage done was to my old car, so I didn't report it to the police. I'm not sure how long accidents stay on the insurance record. They on there the full three years? Probably so, I'd guess...

I'm paying $1800 a year for my WRX WITH a 50% surcharge for 2 accidents, one coming off in April (-10%) and the other in 2004 sometime. . .(-40%)

can't wait for the $75/mnth insurance. . .hopefully I can get a second car by then (91 MR2 again) and lower those rate. . .good by Mod money. . .

I've been paying <$400 every six months for full coverage on my 93 MR2T since I was 19 with state farm. (Now it's <$300). I had a few tickets and one accident that the police couldn't verify that I was the driver. (single car...R.I.P SHO :( ) My parents had picked me up. My WRX rates went up this year. ~$50 every six mo. Agent said that the car was "reclassified" since ppl were wrecking them at a greater than average rate.
