DoinkMobb 01-06-2003, 04:08 AM I wouldn't even waste my time taking my car to the strip. What does a stock 1.8L run in the 1/4 mile, 18's? Mine isn't stock, but it's certainly not much faster than stock.
The next time my friend takes his stereo equipment laden 4 cyl Camry to the strip, I plan on going with him - we'll see whose car is less slow.

subachad 01-07-2003, 03:01 PM The car is a 93 AWD 1.8T. At the time it did have an Rx7 fuel pump, but that's it. Now with the RRFPR, it should be a little quicker. It definately pulls harder now. Also, this is with an RHB5 @ 5psi.

It's not bad at all considering where he came from. When I was running 5psi non-intercooled, I was running high 15's low 16's and was plenty happy. Stock I was running in the low to mid 18's@75-76mph (2.2ltr/Autotranny) just like the 1.8ltrs. I was praying that I'd at least get to low 16's since 5psi of boost typically would knock off approximately 1-1.5 seconds off of a car's stock 1/4 mile times. When I was running high 15s, I almost pooped my pants even though I wasn't really fast to a lot of cars, including a lot of N/A Hondas and Acuras. :p At least he's running faster than the 1.8ltr turbo Scoobies of the mid-late 80's which were actually running more boost.
It probably wouldn't be worth it if you are expecting more. Low compression pistons and/or nitrous can change things in a 'hurry'. Trust me! :D
subachad 08-29-2003, 07:13 PM I think I need to get back to the track and break into the 15's
It's slow, but it's fun and it's a great canyon runner. Not to mention, I'll give a WRX a run on a track.

XT6Wagon 08-29-2003, 07:52 PM good thing that you don't include the older SOHC and OHV 1.8L motors as you would be getting hurt bad....

Are you saying if you run high 15's you will give a stock WRX a run? Nice times over your car stock!!
Jim
subachad 08-29-2003, 08:45 PM What I meant by give a WRX a run is on a road coarse such as PIR or buttonwillow, or Willow Springs, etc... My FN Daewoo is almost as fast in a straight line as my turbocharged Impreza.

mn10roo 09-03-2003, 03:45 AM :D :D  Sorry to make you wrx owners mad but the wrx wasn't the first or only fast sube in the US. gc8 for life------oh and most new subarus can come to our neighbor hood and get humiliated by various older body subarus any time. I love that people have no idea that gc8s can be fast-please just keep thinking that. So the deepest numbers for 1.8 are low 16's? -what's the biggest turbo and how many pounds out of it? I believe somebody locally has cracked 15's by a good margin, maybe 14's I will check. All this talk has got my head big--can't wait to get my "project" done--------sti eat a
sick1.8t 09-03-2003, 01:41 PM i'd like to know more about a 14-15 sec 1.8T subaru, get a time slip if possible so i can put it in the listings.

He has a GC8, a REAL GC8. Specifically a '00 L with a WRX motor.

mn10roo 09-03-2003, 05:08 PM well I'm sure there have been some fast times with a 1.8 but I plan to see were the motor will give, and hopefully it will provide a pretty narly timeslip for shts n giggles---these motors are:
A) cheap-
b) abundent-
c) different kind of power
d) fun
e) fairly tuff---plenty of nights on 100 octane-10-14psi (rhb5)
In my own car I can't decide which way to go 2.2-2.5 or 1.8. Those bigger motors will for sure produce grips more power but they will also test the rest of the car--mainly tranny-diffs. The 1.8 is a rad motor--just keep spinnin it. My brother will have the joy of testing the 1.8T in his car. We are modifing the kit so that the next factor is the motor- the kit includes--jc gen 3 up and down pipes, 3inch exh, greddy s bov, 300horse fmc, and sds eic with 2 440cc injectors. The car should be plenty mean--did I mention it has been on a healthy diet--should be under 2650 with driver. Should be a lot of fun--I will definetly keep you informed. I will also post info on my car--just wait-- I'd like to propose a toast----to subaru for providing me so much fun..
2.5 RRRRS 09-04-2003, 01:53 PM Are there any good kits available for the 1.8 or do you have to put one together yourself?
sick1.8t 09-04-2003, 06:51 PM subachad at www.uniquemotorsports.com (unique motorsports) make an up and down pipe, but thats about it, there are a few out there, but nothing thats too special, or produced in great numbers.
scubydrew 09-07-2003, 02:00 PM i finally got my 1.8 dyno'd and it's putting 143 whp. i'm going to try to take it to the track mid week as long as it doesn't rain. is 143 whp about what everyone else is getting. drew

What is the stock crank rating? 143whp is like 170-180 to the crank I'm guessing

Nice numbers! Hopefully you can crack a high 14 second run since those 1.8ltrs can be pretty light. Good luck!
scubydrew 09-11-2003, 01:18 AM well i went to the track tonight and i'm pretty happy with my numbers. my best run was a 15.002 at 91mph with my girlfriend in the car. next time i run i'm going solo i have to break into the 14's. drew
Kostamojen 10-24-2003, 05:35 AM Well, I guess im not THAT slow... But im still slow...
N/A EJ18... Underdrive pulley, custom intake, borla headers, 2" midpipe with WRX muffler...

Kevin Thomas 10-24-2003, 10:07 AM Hey Kostamojen,
What's with the sad face? :D At least you know you have a high 16 second car with a better (2.0 or lower) 60ft time. My 2.2ltr Outback Sport was running low 18's with intake, exhaust, and pulley AFTER I sold the Minnam turbokit. It was in the mid 17s (low 17s if REALLY cold out) prior to the first turbo installation. Engine was getting tired I guess but it still felt great. :p
Any thoughts about/on your 1/4 mile run Kost?
Kostamojen 10-25-2003, 03:35 AM Thoughts? I was surprized I got a 17 when I got it... I was expecting a mid-18. Kinda fun stuff, but launching is definatly the hardest part even with no power... I think my fast shifting helped a little with the time (I beat the crap out of the car, maybe thats why it was so fast!)
I really didnt feel like I did that much though, cause i never had the launches timed right or the revs figured out, and after 2nd gear its just pedal to the floor waiting for the 1/4 marker...
The most fun that I actually had was going 60mph to turn off the track onto the neat side roads you get to drive on back to the pits :p
sick1.8t 09-26-2005, 06:26 PM Bump from the grave. any new times?
DoinkMobb 09-26-2005, 06:49 PM I wouldn't even waste my time taking my car to the strip. What does a stock 1.8L run in the 1/4 mile, 18's? Mine isn't stock, but it's certainly not much faster than stock.

Haha, I remember this thread.
By the way, on my only run at the track, I ran a blistering 17.9 at like 82 mph or something.
sick1.8t 09-26-2005, 09:02 PM well thats good enough for second place in the N/A category
Kostamojen 09-26-2005, 10:31 PM well thats good enough for second place in the N/A category
Woot, I'm still first! :D
RSmatt 09-27-2005, 10:09 AM Wow this thread is old. There have got to be some faster 1.8t's out there by now. I know scubydrew's car pulled hard on a wrx that was running 13.5's, when he still had the 1.8. To bad he never ran it with that setup. Probably was good for a low 13. But he has changed displacement now.
I just picked up a 95 L w/1.8. Maybe I can get to the track before the end of the season. I'm tempted to boost it, just so I can knock scubydrew out of the top spot. A little sibling rivalry.

t3hWIT 09-30-2005, 01:28 PM might not get to the track until spring. bookmarked this thread til then.
ngk plugs, intake, exhaust, SAFC tuned 6-7% leaner. surprisengly quick for a 1.8L.
t3hWIT 10-11-2005, 08:42 PM hey man, you need to add some more slots. the Motorsports Association here at PCT is heading to Beaver Springs for some dragging. I'm the secretary:D
So hopefully within the next few weeks I'll have something to add...
t3hWIT 10-30-2005, 01:55 AM sorry guys, no times from me until spring
