View Full Version : Anyone have 300WHP?...
1WRX2NV 01-06-2003, 09:19 PM I was wondering if any of you have a "do it yourself" kit, and have gotten 300+ WHP? What kinda mods did this need, and what kind of Engine Management are you useing?
I have 260 whp, but I would like to get at least 300 -320 whp on an 02 wrx 91-93 octane
thanks

dorifto88 01-07-2003, 04:05 AM no, i dont have 300 whp...

dorifto88 01-07-2003, 04:48 AM btw Freddie, what do you remember about your friends stage 3? Do you know what kind of turbo, and how much whp he made? I'd ask highwaydrifter but he seems busy as of late, and is having a specific car problem:(
1WRX2NV 01-07-2003, 01:49 PM I don't remember....
But I do know when the NEW stage 3 comes...and it will come.....WILL DESTROY THE OLD STAGE 3!!!!
BE AFRAID, VERY AFRAID !! :D

2OHOH2WRX 01-07-2003, 09:06 PM I do (not that it's special compared to some of the other cars running around). The only part I didn't install was the FMIC (no plasma cutter), and TurboXS did the UTEC tuning. Everything else was my wrenching.
My dyno sheet... (http://eurotechie.com/images/Places%20and%20Things/Things/Car%20Stuff/TXS%20TQ%20HP%20lq.jpg)

I guess my question is one that has been debated before....it all comes down to the Dyno used. If I use other Dynos my car will read 300+WHP.

WRXGuyInUSA 01-08-2003, 09:25 AM If you'll notice, that says "Flywheel power"graph. That is not whp. I have 265@wheels, which is a hell of a lot more than 300 at the flywheel. Just keep that in mind! the stock subaru boasts 227@flywheel, and most dyno at 168 on average. That is a 26% drivetrain loss. If you assumed that 26% loss would remain throughout the power range (which it doesn't), then 265whp = 355 flywheel hp.
That number is not accurate, because the 26% will actually decrease as hp goes up. it might be more like 20-22% in that range.

 Its obvious you have never had your car dynoed before. Just because it says flywheel at the top of the graph does not mean it is really flywheel horsepower. It is definitely wheel horsepower figures, this issue has been covered several times before when others have posted their dyno graphs.

actually I had mine done 2 weeks ago... ;)
If that's the case, I've just never seen that sheet before. It says "Flywheel Horsepower"... why would it say that, if it was in fact wheel horsepower?
I got mine dynoed on a Mustang Dyno at FIS. Supposedly, it's a no BS dyno, so I'm not sure how reliable others are...
flames 01-08-2003, 05:52 PM I'm running the GODSPEED STAGE 3 + YOSHIO TUNING (for power)
I'm pushing 18 to 22 lbs of boost depending on how stupid I feel that day....
Power pimps tell me I'm close to 350 to the wheels at 20psi on 92 octane!
PE 1818 turbo
Blitz FMIC - Blitz SUS intake
reflashed Yoshio ECU tuning
No cats - godspeed down pipe - Blitz NurSpec R
Maxim Works headers w/up-pipe

Vishnu Pulley
Blitz SBC id
Other mods i can't remember right now...

Thanks 02 ;)
Yep, it's wheel. Not sure why fly is listed on the sheet. NEways...
Tulsa - was it an AWD dyno, or did they convert your car to FWD to dyno it?
NotoriousWRX 01-08-2003, 08:52 PM It's WHP. For some reason the TXS dyno sheets print with flywheel hp on them, but their dyno measures WHP only. The only way to measure flywheel hp would be to remove the motor from the car.

I was dynoed on a Mustang Dyno at FIS. It's an AWD dyno. I'm aware that you can't measure flywheel HP with it in the car, but the computer can make a smart "guesstimate" calculation that comes close...
warlord225 01-08-2003, 11:05 PM that means my leg wagon makes 236 hp @ the wheels

When I saw 'Flywheel Horsepower', I just assumed that the dyno used some type of correction factor to determine what the flywheel horsepower should be and printed that out. Yes, you would figure that wheel horsepower/torque is more important because it's the 'real hp/torque' that's being used but still.
This is my first time noticing the 'flywheel horsepower' being printed but it is supposed to be wheel horsepower. Probably the first time some others have seen it as well. At least the problem was resolved. Ok...continue on. :D
WRXGuyInUSA 01-09-2003, 10:50 AM It seems I'm not the only person that's quote "never had his car dynoed before:rolleyes: "... some people just assume that everybody has seen something that they have once or twice...
Thanks for defending my point Kevin... :D
Dot.Com Cowboy 01-10-2003, 03:52 PM Wouldn't Vishnu's stage three snap the WRX's stock tranny on the first clutch drop?
I mean 500HP on a stock tranny...wow.
Don't get me wrong, I'm loving it and need to buy it immediately, but was wondering about that Tranny.
I live only 30 minutes away from Vishnu so I'm lucky. :)
1WRX2NV 01-10-2003, 06:53 PM No, he uses the....I forget what it is EXACTLY called..."delay" so when you drop it....it gives a couple thenths...so not ALL that torqe is ripping through it.
My friend had it (VS 3) and would launch at 7,000 rpm's....ran 11's on it too!!! and DAILY DRIVER!!!

2MANYCARS 01-11-2003, 09:06 PM Nino,
What did I tell you about my horsepower? I forgot man..... ;)
The dynapack says Fly Wheel for whatever reason. All of them print that on the top of the graphs. The important thing to look at on the dynapack plots is the TCF value because that is a multiplier. Most places have it set at 1 including TXS so what you see is what you get, but I have seen other graphs where it is set to 1.1 or 1.2.
Also, comparing dyno results between two different dynos doesn't really work. Different dynos give different results, everyone should know that. Most of the guys in Australia are amazed at the power we get out of the car because the dynos they use there (dyno dynamics I believe) read much lower. A stock WRX dynos at like 120whp on that dyno. I'm not sure anyone over here other than easy street would make 300whp on one of those dynos...
krave 01-14-2003, 03:07 AM I'm pretty close

Do you have a dyno sheet? I'd love to see the curve with those mods! That Maxim Works header is beautiful!

Yeah, I'd love to see the dyno sheet of the first PE1818 to EVER put 350WHP down

"The formula just isn't as simple as exhaust gives me 20HP + Turbo gives me 50hp + xxx = 350hp ....."
Twelvz 01-23-2003, 12:00 AM I wish I had 300whp :(
299 is all I could muster
but now that I have more power will my trap speeds go up? We'll see, everyone said I needed 300+to get the speeds I had before.
*off topic* Ryan...how much for the WRX?
