I'm from the traditional 4x4 world, and one of the first mods most people do is snorkle the breathers in their differentials.

Basically, most differentials have a pressure breather on the top of the diff to allow air to escape when the fluid heats up. The problem is that you get water in your diff if you go through water higher than the top of your diff. It's not that big a deal, if you don't mind changing your diff fluid all the time.

Does anyone know if this is an issue with Subie diffs? How are they vented?

There is a breather, it's hidden by the crossmember.

You know what......you are right! I DID notice the vent when I was installing the lower under-car bracket for my three piece Cusco rear strut bar. DOH! I forgot.:D

Same issue. You will need to add a tube or hose if you are going to submerge the diff or get it deep enough to splash a lot of water at the vent.
