Just follow the spark plug wires... they all end on the coil.

The 4 black wires that run, 2 each, from the holes in the large metal covers on each side of the engine? Isn't this in the owner's manual?

Are you asking what ignition wires are?

I think he's asking whats the negative input signal for the ignition pack (presumably for installing a aftermarket tach?)

The subaru boxxer engine does not have a "coil" in a conventional sense. They use a coil "pack" If you look at your engine bay.. right on top of the intake manifold there is a little black thing. Your spark plug wires connect to this. That is the coil pack. It uses a signal from the ECU to trigger each spark.
