i read a previous thread about ski racks.. .people were claiming that the soft foot things for the yakima rack didn't leave marks on the paint. however, i am getting pretty bad marks on my black wrx!
how do i prevent this? i definitely wiped down the car and the pads for the rack before putting it on...
thanks

Try putting a heavy duty vinal electrical tape under the yakima towers. Trim the tape to between 1/8 & 1/4" larger than the base of the tower. The bonus is that since you have a black car, the tape will be hardly noticable. Or if you prefer, a clear packing tape works well too. If you only use the rack in the winter, pull the tape off in the spring when the rack comes off for the summer. ;)

I always wax the hell out of the spots where the rack sits, and so far I've had no problems.
