I've looked around but couldn't find what I was looking for, so here goes:

Are the cams in the 99-01 2.5L engines all the same?
Thanks!

Yea I believe the 98 & 99 are DOHC and the 00 & 01 are SOHC.

Here's another question. With the compression change would that neccesitate a different grind of the camshaft?

You are asking whether the increase in MY00 from 9.7:1 CR to 10.0:1 necessitated a cam change? No-- .3 isn't much, and I believe it came from piston volume.

I know the 98s are the only ones with DOHC, but is the cam profile identical on 99-2001? I might get cams done, but I want to have the stock ones as an extra set, so I'm wondering if on a trip to the junk yard I can use cams from any of the SOHC engines? Thanks!

Well its 400 extra bucks if you dont send Trey Cobb your stock cams...

Yeah, but I'll bet I could get em out of a junk yard for a lot less than $400, that is if I can find the right engine.

well dave, if you're going to keep your stock cams, what is a "right" one exactly?

honestly I do not know for certain that the cams in all years of the 99+ SOHC are the same. but if you're simply looking for cores to send to Trey and regrind, it doesn't matter. if you're fishing to see if the 00+ got hotter cams, I doubt that highly. they might not be identical, but I am pretty confident they would not be different enough to make it worthwhile installing them in your MY99.

DaveK,

If your question is whether you can use cams out of a different year from your car as the cores you send back to Trey, then the answer is yes. The cam profiles may change between years, but all the SOHC can use each other's cams. The cores you send in are hard welded and reground, so the initial cam profile really doesn't matter.

Ok, sounds good, and thanks for clearing it up. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif I'm going to have them reground, I just wanted to keep my stock ones too.
