View Full Version : Your thoughts on this WRX deal?
bbrantley 01-12-2003, 01:23 AM Hey folks,
I've been researching the WRX for a while now. I've got a dealer here in SoCal who'll let me take the following:
WRX Wagon w/ 70 miles
automatic trans
crossbars
PEG 2
armrest extension
...for $22000, before taxes and reg. fees.
I can't seem to get anyone else to come anywhere close to that price, so I'm a bit suspicious... but I'd like to hear what you think.
Thanks in advance,
Ben
SubEd 01-12-2003, 01:32 AM What's a PEG2? Seems reasonable to me, given the $800 auto tranny.
Frederf 01-12-2003, 01:50 AM M/T invoice would be above 21k, so auto invoice will be over 22k... Plus you're getting some options. I'd say take the deal, you're getting below invoice.
bbrantley 01-12-2003, 01:53 AM PEG 2 is "Popular Equipment Group 2." I believe that's the auto-dimming mirror and the security system.
Invoice on this model, with the extras, is 23595. Invoice on a base WRX with the auto is 23137.

SubEd 01-12-2003, 01:59 AM I see, well anything under invoice it great. It's just quibbling on the amount! :p
Definitely a good deal (so is it an '02 they need off the lot or something?) - go for it!
bbrantley 01-12-2003, 02:58 AM It's a 2003 -- I can't figure out WHY they're selling it that low. Not only that, but I found another one on the lot that's exactly the same specs... and they'd give me that price on THAT one, too. (Originally the price was an "advertised special.")
I'm still wondering what kind of bait-and-switch they're going to pull at the last minute... hmm....
chrislehr 01-12-2003, 10:20 AM thats about the same as carsdirect.com
:)
bbrantley 01-12-2003, 02:58 PM Really? I guess your definition of "about the same" is more generous. :) Maybe it prices differently in your region. For SoCal zip codes, CarsDirect wants 23162 for the base automatic model... looks like 23563 with the other options that are on this particular wagon. Do you see a significantly lower price?
Thanks for your thoughts.
Sammy76 01-13-2003, 12:17 AM Buy it, that is a fantastic price. Seriously. (Unless you want a manual)
Mike Wevrick 01-13-2003, 12:25 AM One potential problem is that the 70 miles may have come from the car being used as a demo, which means the engine may have been overrevved duing the break-in period ...
ButtDyno 01-13-2003, 01:09 AM They could just be offering you a good price so they can gouge you on your trade in...

Retro 01-13-2003, 02:58 PM If you are tradin in on this make sure to get you baseline walk away price for the trade in. If you are financing with them.. don't. Get a loan aproval with a bank/credit union first, then see what they offer.
bbrantley 01-13-2003, 03:13 PM Thanks guys -- no trade-in, paying cash. Let them know pretty clearly up-front that I was negotiating a walk-out-the-door cash price from the beginning. Like I say, I'm waiting for the bait-'n-switch, but who knows? Maybe this really is a great deal. :)
Brad.T 01-13-2003, 11:50 PM They probably can't move the car with the auto transmission.
What colour's do you have to pick from?
bbrantley 01-14-2003, 12:00 AM Yeah, I was thinking maybe that was part of it. The two that they're offering at that price are both black, but they have a blue and a white one with similar configurations that I bet I could convince them to let go for a similar price...
ButtDyno 01-14-2003, 02:19 AM Get them to open the driver side doors on the ones you're interested in. Look at the FHI plate - if you're looking at the open driver side door it should be on the bottom right IIRC. That will/should have the manufacture date. You can figure out roughly how long the car's been on their lot that way and thus how likely they are going to want to move it.

Its an auto so there is less concern of this IMO. Sounds like a good deal.
soobyfan 01-15-2003, 01:48 PM i think that is extremely high priced
with 70k miles i would think more about 18k
bbrantley 01-15-2003, 01:49 PM Just 70 miles, not 70,000. :)
