I have a total of $1900 invested in this car, including the car.

23 psi boost on the low end, with a drop to 14.5 psi after hitting peak boost. The turbo is just too small to keep up. The intercooler is also restricting flow severly and causing a big pressure drop in the system

Holy smokes that is some good power for only $1900. I bet you were happy you sold the 2K Max. :D

You gusy are all over the boards. I go to fmml, you're there, I go here, you're here:D
Nice numbers. Time to get a stage 2 exhaust wheel in there. I hear volvo exhaust housing is the same as the R/T, so...
And get a nice T04 compressor wheel in there.

Well, I didnt trade the Max for this car. The R/T is just a fun car. When the lease on the Max was up, I turned it in towards a C320 Wagon which my wife drives.

You must be a mind reader:D Or you read the FMML :p

Im going with a TO4E Super 50 trim compressor and a Stage 2 (maybe a Stage 3....not sure yet) / 0.63 turbine along with a much better intercooler.

A new intercooler alone would probably net 30-40 hp based on what Ive heard from some. The pressure drop across this stock has to be magnificent.

very nice, I love those sleeper cars. I've seen a couple LeBaron Convertables Turbo's... the poor Z-28 never knew what hit him! Haha. BTW that torque is insane! Whats your car trapping out at?

This one hasnt been run yet. But, based on past experience of mine and others, it should be something around 108-110. Maybe I can nip into the very high 12's.

With the bigger turbo and IC, it should jump to around 118-120.

i have $1500 in mods and no where near that amount of power.
how much diff is ur turbo compared to the WRX turbo?
what mods does ur friend have for 450hp??
very impressive.

My buddy ron has a Daytona with that engine in it. He runs thirteens with about the same amount of money in it. The power is impressive, but the cars are still a "P.O.S." Get on the brakes too hard in one of those and it just bounces all over the place until it evuntually stops. And if you have to turn quickly your really screwed. I'd rather make evasive maneuvers in a Ford explorer. But, yes they go really fast in a straight line. And if it brakes, $200 fixes just about everything.

we have 2.0 liters, this is a 2.2 liter. 23lbs of boost on a Garrett t3 55 trim, that's bigger than the small TD04 we get. It's a great setup, I'd pick one up myself.

Its only 23 psi on the low end, it drops to 14.5 right after hitting peak boost.

Im not sure how this turbo compares to a TDO4, but here are some approximate specs on the 55 trim Garrett (from www.thedodgegarage.com):

The TBO3 is part of the T3 family of turbochargers from Garrett. In this application the main differences are the larger compressor wheel and housing for better airflow (Turbo III engines are rated at 224 hp), and the exhaust housing which has a more "universal" flange pattern unlike the Turbo I, II and IV engines. Ford SVO Mustangs use a similar housing as well as one or two other auto manufactures. There is a wider variety of exhaust housing ratios available for this turbo because of this. It will NOT bolt to a regular SOHC exhaust manifold.

You could in theory have the slightly larger wheel and compressor housing swapped onto a TO4 turbocharger, but I'd imagine there would be some wastegate can issues along with the fact these turbos are relatively scarce. (from Mopar anyway) It would be cheaper to have a S60 or S70 wheel installed on your TO4 and it would flow more air as well.

TBO3 specs:
Compressor housing A/R .52
Exhaust housing A/R .48
Compressor inducer 45 mm
Compressor exducer 60 mm
Exhaust turbine diameter 48 mm

Wow, your buddy's car must still be on the original brakes and suspension. Though the quality of those car is not as good as subarus', all I can tell you that my 87 CSX (Shadow body) on Koni shocks with Mopar Performance springs runs circles around stock WRX and those cost me only $600. And I have the 90 Daytona brakes on the rear and front calipers from 87 minivan, which is the same size as 89+ daytona ( daytona also has bigger disks in front) and I can stop shorter then WRX as well but the real eye opener is high speed stops:eek: It just STOPS! The whole setup cost me $300. So don't underestimate. I love my WRX but I love my Dodges too. Hell where else you can have a 400+ hp in a FWD car and use mostly stock parts? ( I have a nice engine with a larger yet turbo sitting in my basement waiting for spring to go into my CSX). 2.5L Dodge is a torque monster, easily 350+ lbs of torque at around 3000 rpm:devil: Can you say where the traction at?

Heres another one for sale that was just posted to one of the Dodge lists

I am selling my 91 Spirit R/T with the awesome 2.2 DOHC intercooled turbo
(T3) I just bought it and have to sell it, I cant afford it and of course I
am a mopar junkie so I got myself into a pickle. The car is red, has the
infinity sound system, power seat. Comes with "smart tire" tire pressure
monitoring system- very cool!! newer performance tires and brakes. Engine
head and gasket was replaced about 20,000 miles ago. In great shape!! Turbo
spools up on time and puts all 11 lbs of factory boost. The car has had
Castrol Synthetic since day 1 - I have all the receipts and oil filter boxes
to prove it!! Had a 7/100 chrysler warranty that was used for everything by
previous owner and is a babied car. Has 118 miles but you would never know-
runs like new (especially with rebuilt engine) If you would like to see
pictures please email me at Chriznat20@msn.com or chrisinskewl@yahoo.com.
Located in Michigan, Harrison twp area. $2450 obo. Willing to negotiate for
serious possible buyers.

Yeah...I like the white too....more of a sleeper look.

Mine (no thanks to me) is in impeccable shape. The previous owner really kept this car in tip top shape. Even the interior looks like it just came from the factory....not a blemish anywhere.

So, he did all the hard work I got got to reap the benefits:D

TO4E 50 trim compressor in a 0.50 A/R housing, T3 Stage 3 turbine wheel in a 0.63 A/R housing, Isuzu NPR front mount intercooler, better fuel pump, larger factory injectors, rising rate FPR and about 23 psi boost. Compression is about 7.3:1. The head and lower end is stock.

Nice car.. I raced one of those in red on the highway. I lost by like 2 cars!! This was alittle while ago so it might be an better race now... Anyway, I was laughing my ass off, that car is so sleeper totally took me by suprise. I talked to the guy afterwards and he said his father worked for Mopar.(he was an young guy).. Nice dyno numbers though for such little money too!
Paul
edit: It was the same car, but I thought i remember his engine having an black shroud(like plastic) over the back area, it said "something something turbo" in red writing. I could be mistaken though.

Yeah....I messed with a WRX (all stock except for boost controller) in my father's R/T (which is more tame than mine....he makes about 230 whp) and from a roll it wasnt a very good race. From a standing start 1/4 mile on street tires though, it probably would be a good race.

Yep....that was an R/T! I yanked that foolish intake plenum. That thing is so restrictive and convoluted looking with so many bends and turns, there must be highway roadsign arrows inside pointing in the direction where the air is supposed to go!

When you yank that, the car also sounds a whole lot cooler:)

Cool to see another R/T. I owned a brand new '91 for 8 years. Loved the car despite the mechanical bugs the first several years. Simple mods like bigger injuectors, boost at 14.5, free flowing exhaust made for serious traction problems but great street kills. I surprised and beat so many supposed sport cars with that sedan and really miss it. I was hoping for the same kind of performance out of my WRX but alas that's not the case. The WRX will launch but it doesn't have nowhere near the power throughout the gears that the Spirit R/T had. I remember the incredible pull that it had even when running above 100mph (deserted Utah highways). Sigh, time to head home in my sorta fast WRX. Long live Mopar 2.2's!!

PaulRex

James, have you tried modding your rex yet? It can get faster you know... I can't wait to race my first SRT-4:devil:

edit: with all this pro-Mopar talk someone had to stay postitive about subys lol

VetteVert
02-13-2003, 07:53 AM
Positive or not, it usually takes a bigger turbo or N20 to pull low mid 100s in the 1/4. Launch is pretty much all we have. Look at the street start (5-60mph) numbers. The SRT-4 absolutely destroys a WRX.

I'm not WRX bashing or kissing a neon's ass...just staying realistic and open minded...

You can trap at 101-102mph with stock turbo and just bolt ons really, but i see your point.
