I'm kind of new to the GC8 scene. I was wondering if it's running the same motor as what's in my '02 RS. Hopefully within the year I'll have enough fundage to purchase a 98-01 GC8 and give my 02 to my mom cause she is driving my old Geo Prizm. No one else in my area drives a GC8 and with a turbo kit.... well yeah you get the point.
The hardest part is actually finding a GC8 with a manual tranny. No one wants to fricken sell theirs! Hopefully more will come up with the STI coming around but who knows.
Also what does the L stand for. I did some research and found it has less HP as well as a 2.2L motor. Is that the extent of the difference or is there more?

sorry i was a bit "out" when i posted this...there are only three versions of the EJ25...the 98, 99, and the current one....the 98 was DOHC and the 99 was SOHC but MAF based and the newer ones are MAP based.....the compression ratio also changed through the years the newer one is at 10:1....as far the L is is simply the trim level...the RS has a different suspension, look and engine....and interior..so all together i guess it is a different car...:D

So which motor do you think would best be suited for turboing? I was thinking 99 or 00 unless there's something significantly better with the 98 other than DOHC

i think the compression ratio and the fact that it is MAF based the 99 is the best...
I think it's the 99's that took to turboing best.

I might be selling mine when my STI comes in. '99RS w/leather. Rallispec intake, underdrive pulley, Kartboy short shifter , Version V suspension and spoiler, rear bumper spats, clear front corners and sidemarkers. Rally Blue and really really clean.
Anyway from all the posts and people I've met the 99 seems to take the turbo goods the best.
