View Full Version : UTEC vs. Unichip for my use?

What's up y'all, it's me again. I have one more ? for ya'. I just bought a unichip from a friend of mine and I was wondering if there was any difference in the amount of power I'd get out of them. I won't be doing any of the tuning by myself on a laptop and I'm using a separate boost controller even if I did get UTEC, so is there really a point to upgrading to it in the future? My set up is:
BPM MKiii Twister SeriesTurboback
BPM Venturi Up-pipe
Greddy Profec-B Boost Controller (~15.5 psi)
COBB Unichip
HKS SSQ Blow-Off Valve
COBB Short Throw (doesn't do anything for performance, just thought I'd put it down)

So I guess what I'm really asking is, for what I would use the UTEC for (which is not much, I'd just set it and leave it), it it really worth the $1,000, or should i spend the money on something more valuable for my car?

since u got the unichip forget the UTEC for now unless u plan on getting bigger turbo, IC, inj, FP and plan to push alot of power.
the chip would benefit you the most right now w/ ur mods. also u can still use it and re map it when u upgrade.
unichip can be tuned at FIS in mckinney and can be installed there too. or u can go to IDracing in sachse (North of garland) and have them install it for you for $60. ask for aaron.

I will second that, I dont think the Utec is a good option for you. I think you have to want more control over the functioning of the car to warrant the use of a UTEC. It is not a good set and forget option.

The unichip should be OK for you, but get a knock-link! The one thing I love about my UTEC is it's knock detection/notification/correction. I definately suspect a lot of guys that are driving around with UNICHIPs that weren't tuned on a dyno are experiencing knock under certain conditions and never know it. If you actually hear it, it's WAY too late.

Could not have said it better.
