I know that the RS needs to shift into 3rd before it can get to 60mph. How high would the redline have to be (assuming stock gearing) if I'd like to hit 60 in 2nd? Or, if there are other options, such as changing gear ratios, feel free to point me that way. Actually, would running different size wheels do the trick, too? http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif

I'm estimating somewhere around 6500-7000. But, unless you downshift from the 3rd gear at 60mph, you can't possibly bring the car to 60mph with 2nd gear.

6250 = 57 mph in second. 60 mph thus equals approx 5% more than 6250 or about 6565 RPM.

You could also swap out the 4.11s for the 3.90s found in the L. The resulting drive ratios would allow you to nip 60 in second.

OK, that's what I was looking for.. I didn't know if it was going to be above 6700 or so, which is probably as high as I would go, considering everythign Trey said about valve float, etc. with the stock engine. With a new ECU, hopefully this will happen for me. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif

In my '96 Brighton rev limiter speeds (no idea on rpms...need to get a tach!!) are as follows:

1st: a little under 30

2nd: a little under 55

3rd: right around 70

4th: about 97

The gearing is perfectly matched to the amount of power that it makes the car decently quick, an absolute blast drive, and still give respecable fuel economy. I give Subaru madd props on gearing choices...
