View Full Version : Fogs & High Beams Too Much Juice?

I want to do the fog light mod that's been posted about in a number of forums, but I haven't seen any mention of how much power it takes to run the fogs and high beams at the same time. Is that fine? It doesn't pull too much juice for the alternator/battery? Just wondering.

Thanks!

zarseven,

I actually have done that mod too, and it turned out that when you turn your high beams on, EVERYTHING stays on (low beams, fogs, and high beams - not just high beams and fogs). However I have done many night Road Rallies (TSD events) with that, and its still fine.
I have 2001 RS though, I don't know it that would make a difference.

Think about it this way, people put 300 watt stereos in their cars without upgrading batteries or alternators, so you should be fine too.

is it just me or is the wrx battery pretty weak vs like honda and
nissan factory battery? seems like it has a hard time turning
over in cold weather when my other cars turn over just fine.

I am running a JDM 93 Impreza WRX wagon. The whole system runs Fogs and Highs at the same time with no problem... Most of the time i'm also running 2x10" Subs and a 325w. Amp.. And have no problem running it all at one time... Also i am running the Apexi Turbo Timer and can watch my voltage go up and down as the situations change.. (Higher RPM's, higher voltage... )

fogs are rated at 55w, so about 8-10 amps. can't remember for my life how many high beams are, but i'd say no more than 24-28 amps for all the lights.
