Just keep a thread going post something
dugrant153 01-19-2003, 08:40 PM I like this forum, so I'll post.
I actually don't have a 2.5RS, but I'm hoping to save enough so I can get one in the next few years or so (looking at MY98+).
Just wondering what to look out for in different models, like engine problems, callbacks, etc. Any advice?
And how's the space in the back of the 2.5RS?
And should I just get a Brighton wagon and modify a bit so I can get a folding seat?
My main concern is not being able to fix my guitar case inside my car, which it barely fits in my current old old Toyota Corolla right now.
BTW, your RS looks nice, jdmimpreza.
Jazz95 01-20-2003, 02:08 PM I love my RS too...I just can't afford any mods for it...:(
Nice car...

If any model I would recomend the 00-01 2.5rs. It came with a LSD, double din stereo, Carbon fiber trim, and the motor did not come with the intake silencer or a MAF. If possible try to get this model. Its worth it.

I've only dumped in around 1300 so far on the performance mods, It just adds up once you start and it gets really hard to stop buying stuff. When I first got the car, I thought it was a dead end, no aftermarket support. I was wrong.:D
BoyRacer 01-21-2003, 10:03 AM Dude, you seem to have gotten a lot for your money!
In two different pictures you have two different set's of rims, didn't they cost you $1300 ALONE?
It's a nice car... I like your rims (both sets, are they the correct offset?), but I won't be lowering my car... I love the gravel roads and they can get rought!
:)
balajc 01-21-2003, 10:24 AM I will soon own 2 (that is right, 2) 2.5RS :)
Current: 02 2.5RS 4EAT
Soon: 00 2.5RS Coupe 5MT!!! :D

I spent $1300 on performance mods, apperance mods are a different story. Best advice no internet/male order, I was able to get kick @$$ deals at the local shops near me.
I had 2 set off rims at first. The first one was the 5 zigen copse +43 offset 17x7.5. Now I'm running Alt wheels +48 offset 17x7s.
BoyRacer 01-21-2003, 11:30 AM Ok I see... "Performance mods"
The "correct" offset is +53 right?
I've sunk about $350 of performance mods into my rs... Is your hood scoop functional? Looks like you've hooked it up to your intake, but I can't see clearly. I'm interested in investing in a "home depot" intake something like that. But I'm concerned that even with the stock air box it might be WAY to loud.

there is actually a range +48-53 offset
Um.....my hood scoop is functional for the intercooler, the intake is drawing air from the fender well.
Here's a few pics of my old set up.

BoyRacer 01-21-2003, 01:02 PM I couldn't see it before because of the pieces of paper you had on the intercooler, but I thought I saw a cold air intake from the fender. I was confused, but now I see!
So you got the Turbo for under $1300... Did you install it yourself? You must have. It's nice no matter how much you paid for it...
Any problems with the stock drive train under that power?

I had a lot of help with the labor, thats why it was so cheap. I still have a lot of scars on my fingers from putting together the kit.
For the tranny I have an ACT stage 3 race set up clutch, Jun Lightend fly wheel, upgraded rear Kaaz diff. So far the car is ok, I'm guessing the car is over 250hp.
BoyRacer 01-21-2003, 02:29 PM Nice:D
dugrant153 01-22-2003, 12:24 AM Another question about the 2.5RS:
What separates the RS from a TS (besides feverishly good looks, hehe)?
And is it easy to install an intercooler that way? Or did you have a mechanic install it?
And for that matter, how does an intercooler help a car?
mofoporn 01-22-2003, 03:21 AM jdmimpreza...... where is the boost guage located at?????

I removed the driver side air vent, made a case out of fiber glass for the boost gauge, for those photo's I just used carpet for a sub woofer box, now it vinyl, I'll post pics up as soon as I can.

I can't find any pics but now the housing is matching vinyl.

The RS we're talking about here is the GC8. They stopped making them in 2001 (Got mine just in time!). They started making the TS in 2002, so it has the new body style, it's also a bit heavier and its a wagon.
As for your intercooler question. He has put a turbo in his car and the only way an intercooler would "help a car" is if you have a turbo, in which case it is required. Put very simply turbos generate A LOT of heat and the intercooler helps deal with it. Finally installing a turbo would be considered an advanced project. Most people would have a mechanic do it.

Holy God, ho do you find anything in there (where's the oil stick???? ) Anyways, nice lookin car man. what an RS should look like.
garface 01-26-2003, 04:58 AM Basically a turbo compresses air. Things get hot when they are compressed, so the intercooler helps bring the intake temperature closer to ambient temps before they enter the engine. Cooler air = more power. :)

The Dip stick is in the same place, only difference is the oil filter, and relocated it thanks to the FHI oil cooler:D , Also my oil drain plug is a little bit different because of the oil return line coming from the turbo.
Hondaslayer 01-26-2003, 03:01 PM Did you use a banjo bolt type return line? If so where did you get it from?

I got it from ISR performance

#7 & 8 for the oil return line. Works fine, never had a problem.
