Has anyone cut an STI (blue and siver) key for their GC8 model. My wife got me one for my birthday and the guy that sold it said it would work. I have heard recently from other sources that it won't. Anybody know for sure?????

yes, it will work....with some modification. If you just have it cut, it will work in your ignition, but if you want it to open the doors and trunk, you'll need to shave it down so its thinner. If you compare it to you stock key, you'll see it's fatter.

Great question.. I was going to ask the same thing.. I saw one for sale on a website.. so just get the key cut.. But how to get it thinner? I guess they can do that on the key cutting machine?

nope, most people seem to just use a file. If you get one, you'll see what i mean by fatter. It's not that big, just needs a little filing.

I took .007" off of each side, on a milling machine at work. This matches the factory key. It also leaves cool mill marks on your key. This is the best way to make the key thinner. So if you have any friends that work in a tool shop, let them help.
After you do that you can get the key cut as usual. Mine works in everything but the trunk.

myne opens everything exept my trunk. and it isn't shaved.

The key still wont work in the trunk after you shave it??

It won't even go in the trunk lock. My factory key still works on it fine. The Sti key works great on everything else. Falls in a well, eyes go crossed. Gets kicked by a mule and they go back...I don't know.

Damn I have wanted to get on of these keys because they look so tight, but...all the ones I have seen are like $40 bucks..ouch! Good luck with the keys guys...

yeah I'm the same way.. $40 for just a Key lol I guess to some people it's more then a key :D
