Hey guys, I have been interested in getting a second car that I could take out on the dirt and possibly do some rally x with on the cheap...
I know you have probably been asked this question a million times and I tried the search but it doesnt work because it keeps timing out..

Anyways... I have about a thousand dollars to spend (eekk...)
Well I have found a few first and second gen RX7s and Celicas that run for under thousand dollars..
I was looking at these cars becasue I want something that would be fun on the road as well..
A couple questions first though
Would it be better to get a FWD or RWD car (im guessing FWD becasue RWD would have too much oversteer?)
Will the rotary engine on the RX7 be reliable enough to take out on the dirt?
So if you guys can suggest any cars that I can get for cheap that will be good for the dirt and some good road driving I would really appreiciate it..
Thanks.

Weve got a Rabbit GTI that we would part with for 2100.00. It isnt good at all cosmetically - needs paint - but there is no rot and the engine and cage are very strong.

The good:
GREAT running 1.8 8valve motor, with a mild camshaft

Round eyed front end

Cage that is very strong, but needs gusset update to run current SCCA club rally

lightened hood, three spare bumpers, some other parts

Parts not on car yet:

New brakes (disks and pads front, drums and shoes rear)

A2 GTI crossmember with brakes, for rear disc conversion

Cascade reinforced control arms

European GTi front springs (the hot setup for rally rabbits when combined with Bistein HD struts valved for rally)

Hella four light front grille

Alfa Pro Odometer

12-16 wheels, and 4 rally tires in very good used condition (Michelins and Kumhos) - would part with up to 8 more tires for $100.00 per set of 4

The bad:
A little rust around drivers side floor, with small hole (needs replaced)

Needs passenger seat

Paint is rough

Car was turned into an ice racer, so it needs some details like headlight buckets installed

Nice thing about Rabbits is that they are tough (with strengthened crossmembers) and parts are plentiful and cheap.

get a Dodge Neon ACR... then go to a junk yard and get some 2nd gen struts and frount springs for it. and rally-x the piss out of it. fun auto-x car. get a big sway bar for the rear and you can drift around dirt turns just like a suby.
